Day 52: Gotta get me some focus!

Day 52.  I get distracted easily.  Always have.  My attention span is brief.  Especially if what I’m doing is not in my wheelhouse.  I can produce, act, write, gab, watch movies or eat all day long.  Editing isn’t just outside my wheelhouse it’s all the way in Detroit.  Although it’s not exactly fair to generalize “editing” as what stops me from getting in “the flow” since I’ve never attempted to edit anything other than my documentary–which I’m swimming through 1200 hours of footage with no script for.  It’s really more about that fact.  I threw a fit yesterday when I couldn’t find this one moment in the footage that I know is in there.  I know it’s in there.  I’ve seen it before.  I scoured the shoot cycle I know it was captured in but came up with nothing.  It was crazy making.  It did not help my focus cause.  I regrouped but never fully recovered.  Hair was pulled.  Things were thrown.  Walls were yelled at.  How I Met Your Mother reruns were watched.  Gluten free, sugar free brownies were consumed.  I’m not proud.  I’ve got my fingers crossed that today I’m gonna be like a laser focused samurai editor…or not.  Focus or no focus, I just hope I get more shit done today.

Until tomorrow, create from what you have…focused or not.

  1. I can so relate Kelli! There are times when I’m fully passionate about something, that I can laser focus in a busy coffee shop and stay in the zone, no problem. But, if I’m waffling on an idea or have to do something I hate, like accounting or filing, I find everything on the planet to focus on besides that task. But, at least you binge on gluten free, sugar free. I go in for fully loaded… 🙂 It’s all good!

  2. Thank you, Cindy! Today, I’m relying on my motivational brownies to keep the excitement level high enough to get done what I need to get done today! Whatever it takes, right?
