Day 62: What’s your dream?

Day 62.  The postcards are here!  The postcards here!  They’ve been in development since January 24th.  With input from College Desk columnist Alex to Aunt Wanda and Uncle Fred to sister Lori and friends Lori, Tim, Cindy and Brenda to Beautiful Bride, the postcards are finally done and here, in my possession. What are the postcards for you might ask?  Well, Joie de vivre friend and I are conducting an experiment—an experiment in motivation—an experimental motivation project—a global motivation mission if you will.  I figure we’ll start lofty and lower our expectations from there.  I have this theory I want to test.  My theory is that motivation is transmittable.  I rambled on about it on Day 25:  Is motivation transmittable?  I hypothesized that, “by simply creating something, anything, you’re not only motivating yourself but you’re motivating me at the same time.  How about that?  We’re transmitting motivation back and forth for free just by the act of creating.  Create—motivate—witness creation—be motivated—create some more.”

What happens if we throw our dreams into the “what we are creating” mix?  I think our dreams might just be what sparks motivation in the first place and, according to my theory, motivation is contagious.  If you let yourself dream you begin to motivate yourself and motivation leads to action.  If you declare your dream out loud and someone else hears it or sees it you might just motivate them to dream and their dreaming can create even more motivation in them to actually act on their dream, too!   Like a relay race of dreams, we can pass the motivation baton back and forth.  Motivate yourself.  Motivate others.  That’s my theory anyway.  I seem to have a lot of those this year.

What's your dream?

I’m in a mid-day energy slump.  Actually, I had a bad sore throat yesterday and have some residual crappy feelings today.  I have many things on my “to-do” list.  One of them is number 4:  Do Postcard.  I slide out one of the 5000 postcards from the shipping box.  It’s glossy and pristine.  I have been instructed by Joie de vivre to test the back and make sure it is not glossy, that it’s matte and easily written on with pen, pencil, marker and crayon.  I do the test and report my findings.  I get a green light that they’re good to go.  I reread the instructions on the front of the postcard, although I helped draft them, I’m nervous.  I turn it over and begin to write, “I am…”  I pause.  My heart races, my mind with it.  What dream do I want to declare?  As I ponder what I really want to do that’s when I realize my energy is back, excitement and motivation with it.  Oh yeah, that’s what I’m talkin’ bout.  I think I’m onto something.

Well, it’s time to test the theory beyond my belief and my brief personal experience.  It’s time to throw out a wide net and see what dreams we catch, how motivated we can actually get and what we can create as a result.

Until tomorrow, create from what you have…and prepare to declare your dream.
