Day 69. It’s 4:08am. I am awake with a stuffy nose and cough—a head and chest cold all in one. This after I thought I was out of the woods. Today is day 8 of a lingering sickness. I thought it was over last Saturday. The low-grade fever and sore throat were gone and I was feeling great. But alas, my immune system did not win the battle, which is when I found myself awake in the wee hours of the morning downing a shot of Nyquil. I don’t think the off the charts pollen count right now is helping my cause. It seems my allergies tend to weaken my immune system to where I can get a bug easier or, it keeps my immune system down and allows a bug to last longer than it should. It’s a vicious cycle. With the help of another dose of Nyquil, I slept 12 hours last night. I hacked up some serious yellow and green goo from my sinuses and chest this morning. Everything is crossed that it’s on its way out of my system. I’m tempted to pilfer the amoxicillin out of the old Prev-pak I never used for my stomach troubles because I don’t have the h.pylori bacteria. Before I do, I decide to google the latest research on antibiotics helping sinus infections which I’m starting to suspect I have. It turns out a new study says antibiotics don’t help with sinus infections anymore than a placebo. I decide not to take them. Time, not antibiotics, is what heals what I got. And there you have it. But, I still have to create from what I have today and what I have today is sickness, taxes, lines to memorize and hot water with lemon.
Until tomorrow, create from what you have…in sickness and in health.
