Day 85: Script Frenzy

Day 85.  I’d never heard of NaNoWriMo until Screenwriter Cindy told me about it last November.  She was participating in the National Novel Writing Month.  In other words, she wrote a novel in a month.  Sounds insane to me but she did it.  Did I mention she’s an amazing writer?  Screenwriter Monica is into NaNoWriMo, too and she’s currently writing a young adult novel just on her own.  These girls are real writers!  They inspire me.  I’ve been stuck on page 33 of my script for the experiment since last October.  Between the tooth troubles and the new venture I haven’t had much time to focus on it.  But now I’m going to get serious about finishing it.  I’ve got three movies to make this year and my script is one of them!  Turns out that NaNoWriMo has an offshoot of their program that is dedicated to screenplays.  It’s called Script Frenzy.  The basic gist is you write a 100-page screenplay in 30 days.  I signed up.  My hope is to have a first draft by the end of the program.  What do I have to lose?  It’s free and it sounds fun.  Like a great support system to get motivated and be motivated to finish.  Such a reminder that there’s always support out there and available to us in some form or another—for whatever it is we want to create—if we just take the time to look for it and make the effort to find it.  Oh, and that reminds me; the head of the mentor program at Women in Film, Linda Weitzler, emailed me to let me know she, “found me a wonderful mentor.”  I’d almost forgotten about it!  I’m nervous and excited to begin this program.  No matter how, exactly, it unfolds or what I gain from the experience, I already feel so supported just knowing I officially have a mentor.  How cool is that?  Support rocks.

Until tomorrow, create from what you have…and find your sources of support.

  1. Script Frenzy! Yea! It’s a great self motivator with the added caveat of a community going thru the same torture with you, as well as a daily monitor of your progress. It feels great each day to go on and post your word count or your page count. The key is to set a daily goal and stick to it… 1000 words or 5 pages. But, they give you lots a tips to get you thru the muck. Maybe I should do it to so I really my (revised) deadline for The Botox Party! You’re gonna love it and hate it at the same time!
