Day 121: Use your words

Day 121. I’m done not being clear in my communication.  I’m done not asking for what I want. I’m done not asking for what I need. I’m done not acknowledging what I require.  No fear, no beating around the bush, no games, no passive aggressive manipulation, no subterfuge, no bullshit.  Just saying exactly what I mean and asking for exactly what I want, need or require.  I’m sure I’m full of shit and I’m not done being done but I’m very clear about the fact that I want to be. Until tomorrow, create from what you have…clear communication. Kelli Joan Bennett is a filmmaker, actress, writer, entrepreneur, advocate for creative thinking and Founder and Editor-in-Chief...

Day 120: Groovin’

Day 120.  I can’t get the song “Groovin’” out of my head.  But instead of singing, “groovin’, on a Sunday afternoon,” I’m singing, “workin’, on a Sunday afternoon.”  But it feels just as good.  Day one of 15 is already a success!  Oh me and my countdowns.  You know how I love them!  I finished scene 29 and I’m working my way through scene 30.  There’s still a lot of the day left and I’m actually eyeing finishing scene 30, which would be glorious—not sure I can pull it off but still, it would be helpful considering scene 31 is a ridiculous mess.  There’s five string outs for it because it doesn’t even know exactly what it wants to be.  It’s a catch all...

Day 119: Fast Motion

Day 119.  Unexpected information about a surprise trip arrives this morning.  Did not see that coming.  Totally awesome.  First of all, let me say that I have the most amazing romantic partner in the world—uh-mazing.  I’ll spare you my love goggled gushing and get to the point.  Long story short, my work schedule for May now has an eight-day detour smack dab in the middle of it.  It’s super fun and exciting but it throws a bit of a monkey wrench in my crusade’s completion.  I can probably still finish on my current schedule even with the eight day sidetrack but, I don’t like the idea of counting on it because I simply can’t risk my crusade failing.  And trips, you know,...

Day 118: In the “alone zone”

Day 118. Interruptions have been eliminated. My mind is focused. I’m kicking ass, getting shit done and loving it! Who knows if I’ll get caught up or reach my weekly goals but I’m enjoying the work.  Isn’t that what it’s all about anyway? Here are some awesome thoughts on work to keep us all going: “Opportunities are usually disguised as hard work, so most people don’t recognize them.”   —Ann Landers   “Laziness may appear attractive, but work gives satisfaction.”   —Anne Frank   “Nothing will work unless you do.”   —Maya Angelou   “Because I have work to care about, it is...

Day 117: Behind

Day 117.  I am behind in my editing work for the crusade!  I’m not even going to mention my Script Frenzy goal because it’s completely out the window.  I’m thrilled to have gotten to page 55 but I have no idea how I’m going to get to page 80 before midnight on April 30th.  Oh well.   Reunions, bliss, doctors, dreams, Mad Men—all got in the way.  And they were worth it!  But, there’s still too much going on, too many things to do, too many phone calls, too much desire to do nothing and just be with my long lost man.  Although he’s back to shooting again so he’s soon going to be no longer an excuse starting tomorrow.  I know, I know, enough with...

Day 116: New Dreams!

Day 116.  Several weeks ago—maybe a month even—Eye Doc Sister asked me to check to see if any new dreams had arrived in the PO Box because she’d been passing the postcards out at her office.  If you need a refresher on what the hell the postcards are and what I’m talking about reread Day 62:  What’s Your Dream.  Anyhoo, I checked the box.  Nothing.  Nada.  Zilch.  No postcards.  No new dreams.  “But one person said they were going to go home and do it right away,” my sister exclaimed.  We were both disappointed.  Although we had to admit, deciding on a dream, any dream, from the simple, (having a clean house), to the elaborate, (ending world hunger), and...

Day 115: Temptation Strikes

Day 115.  A friend FB messages me that she’s written a book and to please support her by buying it.  Without hesitation I let her know I will and I’m happy to do it.  She lets me know it’s available through—cue the dramatic horror sound effect—Amazon.  To catch up any new readers and remind any regular readers who have been lulled into a coma by my riveting daily “I just took a shit” reports, on Day 11 I let it be known I’ve been banned from Amazon for my addiction to ordering a ridiculous amount of books from there and spending an ass load of money.  I finally got a library card to show my commitment to my Amazon and book buying sobriety.  I have yet to use my new...

Day 114: What day is it?

Day 114.  I took the day away from everything to clean my house and spend the afternoon with someone I love.  Yummy food, catching up on Mad Men, the Yankees kicking the Rangers’ ass, snuggling under clean sheets—sheer bliss.  Wait, what day is it?  It feels like a Sunday but it’s really a Monday.  I have a moment (or three) where I panic because I haven’t gotten started on scene 26 yet but then I relax and find my way back to the moment.  This moment.  This day.  This someone I love.  I’m oh so incredibly thankful and happy. Until tomorrow, create from what you have…someone you love. Kelli Joan Bennett is a filmmaker, actress, writer, entrepreneur, advocate for...

Day 113: Not a word

Day 113.  I didn’t write one word on my script this weekend—not one word.  But Screenwriter Cindy did on hers.  She finished her first draft!  So exciting.   Screenwriter Cindy doesn’t officially turn in her first draft until May 6th.  She’s taking the next couple weeks to sit with it and do another pass before she turns it into me.  I can’t wait to read it!  And although I didn’t manage to write one word on my screenplay, I did, at least, finally finish scene 25.  It was painful and I almost headed to Vegas several times, but I muscled my way through it.  The crusade continues.  Next week:  scenes 26 through 28.  Oh, and I got an email this morning from my...

Day 112: An Inconvenient Twitch

Day 112.  I’m trying to fall asleep.  I toss.  I turn.  I rearrange.  Nothing seems to stop the incessant and rather intense twitch in my right ass cheek.  Awesome.  I’ve pulled an ass muscle!  God knows I do nothing but sit on said ass for hours on end either in front of the Avid editing or in front of my laptop writing day in and day out.  Hmmmm.  It’s very familiar.  I believe I’ve had this same twitch in the ass before.  I have no idea what causes it or how it’s possible, while doing nothing but sitting on your ass, to actually pull a muscle in your ass.  I must have pinched something in there somewhere or strained my gluteus maximus somehow while adjusting my...
