Day 236: Technically a Technicality

Day 236: Technically a Technicality

Day 236.  Good morning!  I’m actually pretty darn pleased with how close I am to being caught up.  I’d say I’m now a mere half a day behind, maybe? Not bad, huh?  The heat wave was supposed to be broken by this morning and technically it is a little cooler but, it’s still supposed to be 88 today as opposed to the 84 degrees that was forecasted when I wrote on Day 233 about declaring I’d be caught up by today when the heat breaks.  So, I’m letting myself off on a technicality.  I now have until Saturday when it’s now forecasted to be 84.  Woo hoo! Really, Kel?  You’re really letting yourself off the hook this morning and going public with it?   Well that’s not very...

Day 235: Power Walks

Day 235. Something magical happens to me about halfway through my morning walk—I start thinking I can do anything!  I don’t know if it’s the energy that’s created from the physical exercise or endorphins kicking in or a combo but I just love it.  They are power walks in more way than one—I am walking powerfully and getting powerful as I walk.  I’m so happy that my long walks are generating such joy, motivation and energy.  I used to run to get the same feeling.  I’m not going to lie, it was more intense halfway through a 12-mile run—I felt more like an Olympic god.  But the halfway point of a 1-hour walk is still pretty freaking awesome—and much easier on my knees....

What is your truth?

Posted by

Morning Motivation   When looking for facts an online encyclopedia is just what you need.  When searching for answers to what your own personal truth is all you need is you!  Instead of searching for your truth outside of yourself—from other’s opinions of you, advertiser’s manipulation of you, your family’s expectations of you— look for your truth inside of yourself.  What do you believe?  What do you feel?  What do you think?  What is your dream?  What do you want to create?  What is your truth?  Don’t go with the flow.  Don’t cave to peer pressure.  Don’t listen to what someone else says is your truth.  Discover your own truth.  Create from it. Find your truth....

Day 234: Editing News

Day 234.  I’ve been doing a lot of editing lately.  No, not editing on my documentary.  Editing on other writers’ writing.  I actually love it but it’s surprisingly a tremendous amount of work!  It’s like writing but without the writing.  I now understand why the first thank you in the acknowledgement section of books tends to be to the writer’s editor. The good news is I’m no longer two full days behind this week I’m only one day behind.  If I can get done tonight what I need to get done and get done tomorrow what I need to get done then I’m caught up.  The bad news is I’ve been up since 4:30am and I’m fading.  All I want is to take a hot shower, put my pajamas...

What is your perfect?

Posted by

Morning Motivation   Perfect is in the eye of the beholder because “perfect” doesn’t exist except to the person who believes they are seeing, or who believes they have created, or who believes they are experiencing perfection.  Perfect is whatever you decide it is!  Don’t let someone else’s concept or idea of what perfection is influence you discovering, determining and creating your own vision of perfect.  Don’t be a follower!  Be a visionary.  Create your own definition of perfect.  And don’t let anyone tell you you’re wrong. Define your own perfect. Decide you’re perfect. Own your perfection. Create from it.   What are you going to create?   ...

Day 233: How is that possible?

Day 233. At the end of my Monday I am finding myself not one day behind schedule for the week but two!  How is that possible?  UGH!  It’s probably because I’m ridiculously overextended but I’m going to blame it on the heat wave instead.  My brain is overheated.  Seem reasonable?   The heat wave is finally supposed to break by this Thursday, I think.  So, my goal is to be caught up by then.  Seem reasonable?  Yeah, seems reasonable. Until tomorrow, create from what you have…what seems reasonable. Do you know what your shadow is?

Posted by

Morning Motivation   If the contrast to light is dark, right to wrong, good to bad, our shadow is the contrast to our best self.  Do you know what your shadow is?  Do you know what brings out your shadow?  What brings out the worst in you?  Ignoring your dark side doesn’t make it go away, it only allows you to pretend it doesn’t exist or to feel ashamed of it.  Give yourself the best shot at success by feeding and nurturing your light to shine brighter and by acknowledging and addressing and dealing with your shadow.  Whatever your shadow is—fear, anger, resentment, jealousy, insecurity, competing, comparing, laziness, negativity, addiction, egotism—don’t let...

Are you seeing all the possibilities?

Day 232: Pumping Creative Iron

Day 232.  The sprinklers sound like wind.  Maybe it is wind?  Maybe it’s the sprinklers.  Maybe it’s both.  I’m not sure.  Just typing that makes me realize I’m also not sure what I’m going to do today.  Write?  Make notes?  Hang out on Twitter all day?  Go to the movies?  Watch the Yankees?  Read?  Do nothing?  Or maybe, all of the above.  I had a great day yesterday working on the film projects.  I’ll probably do more of that.  After 231 days of my yearlong experiment in prolific creativity, I’m used to “prolific” meaning creating everyday.  No exceptions.  Like brushing your teeth.  I wake up and I create.  It’s a reminder that any kind of...

Why do you create?

Posted by

Morning Motivation   Having a reason why increases motivation.  It’s the why that keeps us going long after the initial spark of inspiration and excitement are long gone.  A why can be intangible: a sense of duty, a belief, a restless drive, a feeling of joy.  A why can be tangible:  your family, a contract, money, a deadline.  What’s your why?  Whatever your why is, let it feed you the motivation you need to create.  Your why is the most important thing you have to create from!  Figure it out.  Let it motivate you to create from what you have. Figure out your why. Get motivated by it. Create from it.   What are you going to create?    ...
