In the Trenches—Day 12 Year 2: Refreshed!

Day 12 Year 2:  Not gonna lie, last night was dicey!  I had three moments where I was teetering on the edge of a meltdown.  What brought me back from the abyss?  The reminder that I need to save the drama for the screen!  I can’t waste my tears and freak outs in my real life.  Right?  There’s too much on the page.  So, I reeled it back in every time. But this morning, I have woken up feeling refreshed!  I’ve got my to-do list primed and ready.  The day begins at SMILE where six pounds of hair will be waxed from my body at 8:30am.  From there, I’m going to Staples to buy some props and make some copies until Loehman’s and the mall open at 10am.  Then it’s back to...

In the Trenches—Day 11 Year 2: 3 Days to Liftoff

Day 11 Year 2:  Holy crap!  I’m staring down three days until our first day of production.  The list of things to do is still so long I can’t see the end of it.  We lost our prop person so I need to organize props.  I need to run my lines.  I still need my character’s wardrobe.  I need to do the SAG contracts for the actors.  I need to do things I can’t even remember I’m supposed to do.  I need to sleep.  Oh, and did I mention it’s like 40 degrees outside?  We’re having a crazy cold spell!  I was not kidding when I said we are all going to freeze our asses off on this shoot.  For one scene, I’m sitting outside eating dinner in a robe wearing flip flops at...

In the Trenches—Day 10 Year 2: Props and a Nomination

Day 10 Year 2:  It’s prop day! I’m gathering and organizing props for the film all day today.  Woo hoo!  Most of them are coming from my own house so it shouldn’t be too hard.  Some are special order.  Good times! Oh, did I tell you that we also just found out yesterday that my Uh-Mazing Romantic Partner/Documentary Producing Partner was nominated for a DGA award for his work on Ink Master?  Well, he was.  And I’m so excited for him and so proud of him!  And of course, I’ve already booked my hair appointment for the awards ceremony. Here’s the link to the DGA nomination list:...

In the Trenches—Day 9 Year 2: Let’s Believe We Can

Day 9 Year 2:  Whatever we’re setting out to create today—relief from pain, health, love, art, an education, money, an even better reality show, an independent film—let’s believe we can create it.  The pain is going to go away.  Health is ours.  Love is in us and in our lives.  Art is in everything we look at.  Everything we experience is educating us.  Abundance is overflowing.  The work just keeps getting better. And for me personally, I believe I can create my movie!  I believe you can create what you are setting out to create, too.  Let’s do this! Until tomorrow, create from what you have…belief. Kelli Joan Bennett is a filmmaker, actress, writer,...

In the Trenches—Day 8 Year 2: At Last—Relaxed & Signatory

Day 8 Year 2:  Something shifted in me today.  Hours before we got the final word from our rep at SAG we had an official production number, an amount to wire transfer to them and their general thumb’s up, I relaxed.  Like seriously, completely and totally relaxed.  Not an ounce of that low level (or high level) anxiety to be found.  Oh how glorious it feels not to feel that.  Why now?  Why today?  Perhaps it’s because I’m about to bleed.  Perhaps it’s because I had an amazing meeting with my director and one of our stars of the film today.  They were both delicious and creative and reeking of talent and enthusiasm for our film.  Fun with a capital F, I say!  That’s what...

Travel Column: Up and Away, Down to Earth—Reykjavik, Iceland

Dear Friends, Happy New Year!  I hope all is alive and well.  The world didn’t end – those Mayan jokesters – and we’re all still here.  So let’s have fun with it, and let the new year’s resolutions begin. I’m going a different route for 2013 – I’m not joining a gym (let’s be honest, I never have), and I’m not going to curse less.  Instead, I’m going to revisit my bucket list, and vow to accomplish at least one thing from it.  Do you have a bucket list?  Everyone should.  A bucket list is the ultimate holy grail of your own life.  It’s different for everyone, and it’s a great way to define who we are and why we are here – and what we want to see and accomplish in this...

In the Trenches—Day 7 Year 2: The Experience

Day 7 Year 2:  I got a call from Ridiculously Generous, Amazingly Talented and Very Successful Actress Friend at 3:45pm yesterday.  She was recently in town for the holidays and I didn’t get to see her because of one reason and one reason only:  SAG!  The day she could get away from her family was the day I was drowning in filling out all of the required SAG paperwork for the project.  No, not happy about that. It was so good to hear her voice, catch up and have her calm me down about all I still need to do in the next 8 days—from the production end to the acting end—before we’re officially underway.  I mentioned in yesterday’s report, Day 6 Year 2, I haven’t been able...

Monday Motivation — Are you creating from it all?

Posted by

Are you creating from it all?   Instead of shutting down, giving up, calling it quits or crawling in a hole, create from everything that comes your way everyday!  Got a cold?  Create from it.  Lost your confidence?  Create from it.  Someone just broke your heart?  Create from it.  Things didn’t go as planned?  Create from it.  Your stomach hurts?  Create from it.  Stressed out?  Create from it.  Upset with someone?  Create from it.  Disappointed in yourself?  Create from it. No matter where you are or what you have or how you feel or when you think it will change—create from it all! Create from the dark, the light and everything in between.  What are you going to...

In the Trenches—Day 6 Year 2: 9 Days and Counting

Day 6 Year 2:  I can’t seem to relax.  At all.  Even a little.  Maybe that’s a good thing?  I work on the movie all day.  I go to sleep thinking about the movie.  I wake up from dreaming about the movie.  I am truly deep in the middle of creating this movie and I’m a mess.  Thank god for my creative team and our new line producer!  Obviously, without a team, you can’t create a film.  It takes a village. I watched Silver Linings Playbook last night.  I had been resisting watching this one simply because the love interests’ age difference is so great it bugs the shit out of me.  Of course it’s an older man/younger woman scenario.  Ugh.  Makes me vomit a little in my...
