Creating 2015—Day 23:   SAG Awards

Today is the last day for SAG members to vote for the Screen Actors Guild Awards.  I, of course, put it off until the last minute.  Not because I don’t know whom I’m voting for, I do, but because I already feel like I voted.  I was on the SAG nominating committee this year.  I watched all the movies early and then cast my vote to who should be nominated in the first place.  It was an honor and mostly fun.  It was a tad intense the last week when I still had like 40 films to watch.  It became like a job to watch movies. So this morning, I’m about to go cast my vote for who should win.  Fun! Until tomorrow, create from what you have…your vote. Kelli Joan Bennett is a...

Creating 2015—Day 22:   What Are My Goals?

Good question!  I have traveled a lot in the last three months—to Chicago, Miami, Missouri, New Hampshire, Cancun, and most recently, San Francisco and Napa Valley.  Traveling is such an incredible gift and something I love to do.  It’s a priority for me to try and see as much of the world in this lifetime as I can.  But I’m tired!  Travel may be amazingly expansive and restorative and inspiring, but it can wear you down after awhile.  So, for now, it’s time to stop, get grounded and focus on what the hell I’m doing with my life!  In other words, it’s time to get serious. There is a lot of talk about goals coming at me from many different sources lately.  It’s a sign!...

Creating 2015—Day 21:  A Different Way Home

My flight home this morning is cancelled.  I only find this out because Vic, our car service driver, texts me to say, “Your flight is cancelled.”  Not a peep about this vital information from Southwest, the airline I’m flying on.  Apparently, they already booked all the passengers on a flight two hours later.  That doesn’t work for me!  I’m on a very tight schedule with several appointments after I get home. The race begins to get to a different airport to fly into yet another different airport to still make it home in enough time to make it to where I need to go. Long story short, I made it home at the same scheduled time…just a different way.  It was dicey there for...

Creating 2015—Day 20:   Exploring Napa

We pulled the trigger on the Fairmont in Sonoma for one main reason…the package deal!  We had 48 hours and knew we were going to sleep a ton, eat and go to the spa and that would be about it.  And, despite my initial grumblings about the exterior cleanliness of the joint and the scuffed furniture interior, we had an amazing bang for your buck kind of experience!  We got the rejuvenation package: a mission suite room—fireplace, Jacuzzi tub and fireplace—breakfast for two each morning, and two spa treatments a day.  We never got the fireplace to work but the breakfast was hot and delicious and the spa was pretty awesome.  All in all, we were very happy with what we got...

Daily Dose—BE AWARE

Look both ways before you cross the street.  Remember to floss every day.  Be mindful of your thoughts.  Take care of your health.  Go for your dreams.  At the heart of all of these things is awareness.  Being aware of your surroundings.  Being aware of important daily actions.  Being aware of your health.  Being aware of your goals.  Being aware of your dreams.  When you stop paying attention to what matters to you, you can lose sight of what really matters.  The deeper problem is self-sabotage.  According to Psychology Today, “Behavior is said to be self-sabotaging when it creates problems and interferes with long-standing goals. The most common self-sabotaging...

Creating 2015—Day 18 & 19:  Sonoma and a Slip Up

I wake up at 3:07am to pee.  As I crawl back into my plush, four-poster bed at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn and start to close my eyes, I realize I never wrote a post yesterday!  I’m so upset about this realization that it takes me a good half hour to fall back asleep.  I consider getting up and writing something right then and there but it’s already after midnight.  It’s too late.  I missed a day. Why so upset about missing a day of writing my post?  Well, because I set my intention to write one every day just like I did during my Experiment in Prolific Creativity of 2012!  And to blow that off is bullshit.  The whole point of this daily ritual is to build up my...

Creating 2015—Day 17:   A Hangover and a Goodbye

Right next to the MCR is a wine and cheese bar.  Last night, I spent way too much time in there and I pay for it today.  I haven’t had a hangover in a long time.  I forget what they are like.  They suck!  I had originally planned to go catch a matinee of the Tom Stoppard play “Indian Ink” at A.C.T. but aforementioned hangover has other plans.  Like making me feel wonky all damn day. But, I have to rally.  Uh-mazing Romantic Partner has a big task this afternoon.  He’s announcing to his crew that he is leaving Bar Rescue.  Next week will be his last episode.  I am here for moral support.  This is hard.  He loves the show and his cast and crew.  To say goodbye will not be...

Creating 2015—Day 16:   San Francisco!

I took a walk on the nostalgic side today.  I haven’t been in San Francisco for a decade.  Well, actually, it’s been more like 15 years!  I spent a ton of time up here with my ex-husband in my twenties and then again in my early 30’s when Best Friend Bride was going to the American Conservatory Theater—A.C.T.  OMG, we had some good times in this city!  And I found myself searching for familiar haunts.  Places I remembered coming to over and over again.  I successfully found two of those places but the third I was in search of was no longer there. It had changed hands and was called something else now.  Sad.  But also a reminder that nothing lasts forever. Until...

Creating 2015—Day 15:   Bar Rescue

I’m sitting in the MCR—short for master control room—for the latest Bar Rescue episode which happens to be in San Francisco this week, one of my favorite cities.  I can’t wait to get to North Beach, China Town and see if the jazz club Pearl’s is still around! If you don’t know what Bar Rescue is, it’s a reality show on SPIKE TV that follows bar expert Jon Taffer as he makes over failing bars.  Why do I know about this show?  Well, Uh-mazing Romantic Partner has been an executive producer on this show for the last three years.  It’s a good, fun show!  And I’m not just saying that because I’m sleeping with the show runner. If you haven’t seen it, I highly...
