Creating 2015—Day 57:   An Opportunity For Growth

I have been getting an annual birthday reading from the same astrologist for a decade.  Silvia Guersenzvaig.   She works out of the Esalen Institute in Big Sur and I highly recommend her if you’re into that sort of thing. Go ahead.  Start with the Steve Martin jokes. “Let me check my lucky astrology mood watch,” etc.  I know it sounds hooey hooey, but she is a beautiful human being and I look forward to my two hours on the phone with her once a year.  Her voice and energy are loving, calming and supportive.  She doesn’t claim to be a psychic, she’s reading your charts based on her almost 40 years of experience in the field.  She tells you what’s in your stars.  And you know you’re in trouble when she says, “I see you have an opportunity for growth coming up.”  Uh oh.  “Opportunity for growth” is code for your life is going to suck for a while but you’ll learn something from it.  Well, she didn’t warn me of any opportunities for growth this coming year but I sure as hell feel like I’m in one right this minute!  In other words, I want to whine and cry and bitch.  Writing that sentence actually just made me laugh.  I’m exhausted after a long day, hormonal, and feeling grumpy because I just found out we didn’t get into another big film festival.   Deep sigh.  It feels a little challenging in this moment to hold onto Arianna Huffington’s favorite quote:

“Live life as if everything is rigged in your favor.” – Rumi

But hold onto it I must!  Life is so rigged in my freaking favor.  I mean, come on!  For starters, I’m alive and healthy.  That proves it right there.  I also have the most amazing family, friends, and creative associates, and, I’m head over heels in love with my life partner.  More proof.  And you know what else?  The cherry on top of the sundae?  I am incredibly blessed to be able to wake up and do what I love to do every single day.   That is a rare gift not everyone receives.  Yep, life is definitely rigged in my favor.

Okay, good!  I have officially talked myself off the ledge of ungratefulness.  I’m back to being thankful regardless of a piddly little rejection here and there.  I am once again ready for that next opportunity to grow.  “Each failure brings you one step closer to success” as Zig Zigler says.  Bring it.

Until tomorrow, create from what you have…opportunities to grow.
