Creating 2015—Day 41:   No Time To Dwell

I personally handed my envelope of screeners to the very tall, pretty woman unlocking the Film Independent office doors a little before 10am this morning.  They weren’t officially open for business yet.  She was kind but in a rush.  The hand off was fast and without fanfare.  With only five hours of sleep under my belt, I appreciated that.  I didn’t have much personality for anything else. After the unceremonious drop, we headed to CCI Digital to see the amazing Pete Kastoff, the owner of the joint.  We knew he wasn’t happy with us.  Not surprising considering the audio mix took about 30 hours longer than we were scheduled for.  There will be hell to pay for that and...

Creating 2015—Day 40:   A Day Late

Day 40 was technically yesterday at this point.  I had just closed my eyes when I realized I hadn’t written my post for the day.  I gasp and came running back into my office to open my computer.  Mind you, the alarm is set for 6am. Tim spent 12 hours in the editing bay doing the final online edit and sound mix. It was grueling and he came home super tired and pissed off the score wasn’t done. As for me, I spent the entire day working on the Without A Box for Collusions. I officially submitted a work-in-progress to the LA Film Festival about a half hour ago, labeled the DVDs and put them the addressed, tracking numbered envelope that I will drop off tomorrow…well,...

Creating 2015—Day 38:   Working Weekend

I wish I could report that everything is going perfectly.  That I have everything done.  That I am ahead of the 8-Ball. But if I report those things, I’d be lying out my ass.  I can report that things are moving along, slowly but surely.  I needed to get more done today than I ended up getting done. But so be it.  I’m about to face plant after only five hours of sleep last night.   I’m exhausted but the irony is I can’t sleep. I am more than a tad overwhelmed and wired by all that’s going on between my two movies.  I have a festival deadline for one on Monday and a festival deadline on Tuesday for the other one plus a whole bunch of accounting stuff for the former that...

Creating 2015—Day 37:   Attitude Adjustment

When it rains it pours.  Murphy’s Law.  If something can happen it will happen.  Mercury is in retrograde.  And my favorite: excuses are like assholes, everybody’s got one.  And I have a lot of those today!  Not assholes, excuses.  (Well, maybe a few assholes too.)  But the truth is, none of them are actually valid!  The only issue I have this morning is a bad attitude.  And when I have a bad attitude I want an excuse for everything.  I exist in a field of clichés and nonsense. Why, you might ask, are you a total bitch this morning?  Well, for starters, there is an insane amount to get done before February 11th.  I don’t actually know how I will physically get it...

Creating 2015—Day 36:   Coloring Collusions

3:55am.  I can’t fall back asleep.  I need to but I can’t.  My mind won’t calm down.  There’s too much to do.  I give up and get out of bed.  It’s now 4:55am. Today is all about color.  We have to be at CCI Digital at 9am with our director to go over his color notes with the colorist so said colorist can get started color timing the movie.  We are on a tight schedule between now and me walking into The Los Angeles Film Festival office and handing them our DVDs for festival consideration on Tuesday, February 10th. Color is critical creatively for Collusions!  The film jumps back and forth in time—from past to present, present back to past—and the visual aesthetic...

Creating 2015—Day 35:   Let Me Introduce You To…

The amazing Derek Meeker!!!!  I met Derek six years ago in rehearsals for the play The Columbine Project that started at the Avery Schreiber Theatre in NoHo and eventually wound up in NYC at the Actors Temple for an Off-Broadway run. He was playing the role of the reporter who opens the show plus a couple other parts throughout and I was playing the mom of one of the killers.  We instantly hit it off.  For starters, he’s incredibly talented.  And I’m attracted to talent.  Beyond that, he’s just good people!  He’s smart, gorgeous, kind, and creative.  What’s not to love?  Oh, and did I mention that he went to law school?  So there’s that delicious sexiness.  After law...

Creating 2015—Day 34:   Good Day, Bummer Ending

After a long, full day working on both of my movies I arrive home to this waiting for me in the mailbox… I sat on a jury once.  It went to trial and the whole nine.  I actually thought that made me exempt for like forever.  Apparently not!  The guy in the trial was in a gang and he had beat up his girlfriend or something like that.  This was awhile ago so my memory is fuzzy.  The threatened, battered girlfriend was the prosecution’s star witness but when she got on the stand in front of us, the jury, she recanted.  She perjured herself.  It was obvious someone had threatened her causing her to change her story but, alas, there was reasonable doubt.  We found him guilty...

Creating 2015—Day 33:   First Day of Cleanse!

The second I remember Uh-mazing Romantic Partner and I are starting the Clean Cleanse this morning I am suddenly starving! Prior to this thought, I wasn’t hungry at all.  What is that about?!  I don’t know.  Except that “hunger” is probably all in my head because I really have no idea what it means to truly be starving.  Thank you god, goddess, all that is for that. This first day wasn’t too bad!  I purposely made our favorite smoothies for breakfast and dinner and one of our favorite meals, chicken curry, for lunch.  It did not disappoint!  I altered the recipe years ago to fit into the Clean cleanse and we loved it so much, we kept it that way.  The biggest alteration...
