Creating 2015—Day 62:   Lists Are Magical

I was on fire yesterday!  Getting shit done.  It was a good day for my new project, Death Over 3 Bottles of Wine.  I followed up with people I’d sent the script to at the end of last year, got director recommendations, reached out to potential directors, potential producing partners, and most importantly, I printed out the script in preparation to dive back into the creative.  As my dear friend, the amazing writer/producer Sylvia Jaunzarins, says, “Put it in a binder. That makes it real.”

The only reason I was able to get so much done yesterday was because I had a list.  And the only reason I had a list was because of my aforementioned dear friend Sylvia.  Sylvia has an incredible script she’s written and is going to produce this year as well.  So, we started having weekly meetings at the end of last year to help motivate each other and keep each other going.  Our last one was this past Friday.  She was super dialed in—confident and clear on what her next steps were.  I, in stark contrast, was a drooling, insecure, confused mess.  Not my best day.  She kindly strong-armed me to write down a list of three things to do to move the project forward.  It took her almost two hours to extract it out of me.

It was that list I went to on Monday morning and started doing whatever was on it.  After doing the first couple of things on the list, my confidence grew and I thought of more people to reach out to and more things to do and it snowballed into a full day of working on the project.  Lists.  Are.  Magical!

First up this morning, running to Office Depot to get the perfect binder!  Even though I don’t know exactly how or with whom, putting the script in a binder to officially begin pre-production makes it real that I’m making my next movie!

Until tomorrow, create from what you have…lists and forward motion.
