Creating 2015—Day 63:   Help Wanted!

If you followed me on my Yearlong Experiment in Prolific Creativity back in 2012 that resulted in filming my first scripted movie, Collusions, in January 2013, then you know one of my big things that year was asking for help.  Asking for help from friends and family and business associates, but also from people I didn’t know yet who knew more than me who could act as my mentors and consultants and guides on my no-budget filmmaking journey.  This year is going to be no different.  But, there’s this weird ego thing telling me I shouldn’t need to ask anyone for help, or ask for anything for that matter, because I should know how to do this.  I mean, come on.  I did it already!  I’ve made a movie before, just do it again.  And to some extent, that is true—I do need to just do it again.

I need to utilize my benefits!

I need to utilize my benefits!

But, I’ve never made this particular movie before.  I’ve never made a second scripted film before.  I’ve never had to decide on a new producing partner and director for this very personal project before.  So, I don’t know!  And as my wonderful Accomplishment Coach Andrea Quinn says, “When you don’t know, anything is possible.”

Where am I going with all this?  I scheduled a consultation with Film Independent’s Resident Producer, Angele C. Lee, for April 1st.  I’m a Filmmaker Pro level member in the organization and it is a perk of my membership and is free.  I never take advantage of my memberships and I need to change that.  I’m very excited to meet with her.  The two topics I want to discuss and get her thoughts on are the process of selecting a director and a producing partner.  Two huge decisions I have to make very soon.

It's in a binder. It's on!

It’s in a binder. It’s on!

I have received two wonderful referrals for directors already!  And I need counsel on this process.  Yes, technically I chose my first director but, in truth, I was deferring to my producing partner’s judgment.  I believed in her and she was more experienced than I was so I believed in her top choice for a director.  But this time, I’m going to be more hands on, be more selective and learn more about the director selection process.  And I need help!

Oh, and the script for Death Over 3 Bottles of Wine is printed out and in a binder! Woo hoo! I’m making a movie.  Let me rephrase that.  We’re making a movie.  I need your help!  So consider yourself asked.

Until tomorrow, create from what you have…binders, consultations and help.
