Creating 2015—Day 81:   The End Is Near

My beloved but decrepit Chevy S-10 pick-up wouldn’t start this morning.  If I don’t fire it up and let it run every three or four days, the battery will drain and it won’t turn over.  I’ve had to call Triple A for a jump about three times in the last couple of months because I keep forgetting. I keep forgetting to start it up because we don’t feel comfortable driving it farther than to the grocery store or dry cleaners.  Both of which are only a mile or two from our house.  Uh-mazing Romantic Partner actually just drove it to pick up his gardening supplies a couple days ago so I think what happened this time is the visor light got triggered and was left on.  It...

Creating 2015—Day 80:   Weekend Website Fun

I’ll write more about this when I’m not so deliriously tired but, I spent the day working on the website content for my documentary film High School 911.  I know, I know.  This weekend was supposed to be my weekend to do nothing. That went out the window when I remembered I’d told our wonderful website designer I’d get him the content for the site he’s building for us by the end of this week.  The good thing is it didn’t feel like work at all.  It was actually super fun!  I’m getting so excited to bring this baby out into the world. Until tomorrow, create from what you have…fun work on the weekend. Kelli Joan Bennett is a filmmaker, actress, writer, entrepreneur,...

Creating 2015—Day 79:   A Drama Queen & Carousel

I was totally wrong!  Today turned out to be painless.  It wasn’t grueling nor was it long.  Don’t get me wrong; I’m still super happy it is over! But in retrospect, I realize I was very dramatic in my post last night. For one reason, I was exhausted.  Exhaustion always brings out my inner drama queen.  And, besides my fatigue, I truly thought today would be long and grueling.  We had a big meeting around accounting stuff for my documentary.  If you even mention the word “accounting” around me, the adjectives “grueling” and “long” immediately pop into my mind. After my not so grueling or long morning meeting, Uh-Mazing Romantic Partner and I decided to celebrate with...

Creating 2015—Day 78:   Working For The Weekend

Oh, how I wish I could blink my eyes like Barbara Eden in I Dream of Jeanni and have Friday be over with!  Oy.  It’s going to be a long and grueling and stressful day.  To quote Lloyd Bridges in Airplane, “Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking.”  Thank goodness for the weekend coming up!  I don’t know about you but I can’t wait for it.  In fact, I’m working for it!  Cue the Loverboy song. But, in light of the sad news yesterday that Aunt Lou passed away, I am reminded to stop complaining and be thankful for all the amazing blessings in my life!  And even to be thankful for all of the opportunities I have to be strong and...

Creating 2015—Day 77:   Rest In Peace Aunt Lou

Aunt Louise passed away yesterday.  So sad to find this out.  My cousin Pam and cousin Donna reached out via email this morning saying they’d seen a Facebook post about someone writing they’d miss Aunt Lou and was wondering what was up.  I was no help at all.  I neither knew nor had heard anything.  I called my mom at 7:30am, right after getting the email from my cousins.  Mom hadn’t heard anything either. Aunt Lou was one of my Dad’s older sisters.  She lived in Illinois with her husband Bob so I didn’t get to see her that much over the years.  Just at family reunions and once when she was out in California for Thanksgiving at my Aunt Norma’s house.  I...

Creating 2015—Day 76:   Good Hair, Clean Teeth

After being excused from the jury yesterday, I luxuriated in getting my hair done and getting my teeth cleaned today. I adore my hairdresser, Tawny, at Studio Shae.  She’s not only amazing at what she does but she’s also just good people.  I first went to her at the end of 2012.  She did my hair for my character Lindsey in Collusions.  She’s been doing my hair ever since.  I highly recommend her! After getting my hair done I was off to get my teeth cleaned.  I know this might sound crazy but I love going to the dentist!  But not just any dentist—my dentist, Dr. Beverly A. Woss, D.D.S., is simply the best! I’ve been going to Dr. Woss for almost 15 years now.  She keeps...

Creating 2015—Day 75:   “You’re excused.”

The defense attorney for the case says, “I’d like to excuse juror number five.”  Wait, what?  That’s me!  I’m in shock. The judge, prosecutor and aforementioned defense attorney had just questioned me.  Apparently, I said something the defense didn’t like.  The woman next to me in juror seat number four mutters, “You’re so lucky.”  But I don’t feel lucky.  I feel oddly rejected!  As I make my way out of the jury box all I can think is, this guy has no idea who he just let go.  I’d be the best damn juror for this case!  Fair and thoughtful and a follower of the “innocent until proven guilty” rule!  Of course, the grand irony is that I didn’t want to get picked.  Yet,...

Creating 2015—Day 74:   Consequences

I started feeling like shit about a week ago.  A tender, shooting pain on the left side of my head, a swollen throat, and body aches, nausea and fatigue.  Initially, I thought I was fighting off a bug of some kind.  Then I thought it was allergies.  But when it wasn’t going away or lessening, I knew what was really wrong with me—neglect.  I had stopped exercising regularly and, I had stopped religiously following my pre-diabetes nutrition plan three months ago. Actions—or lack of them—have consequences.  I started neglecting my health and now I am paying for it. What cures neglect?  Attention. The holidays and stress were the two main culprits that kicked off my descent...
