Creating 2015—Day 111:   Wide Awake

I wake up at 2am to pee.  This is my third or fourth time since I feel asleep.  Hmmmmm.  That’s a lot even for me.  We are cleansing so I am drinking a ton of water but I immediately worry I might have a urinary tract infection because this time it burns just the slightest bit.  Shit.  I hate that feeling and won’t take any chances.  I am currently drinking a big glass of water spiked with eight ounces of pure cranberry juice. At the first sign of a UTI, I drink about 16 ounces of the bitter stuff diluted with double the water.  Some research says it’s a total myth.  One WebMD article cites a study that says it prevents bacteria from sticking around to turn into an...

Creating 2015—Day 110:   The “C” Word

More baby steps towards the “C” word: COMPLETION.  No, we’re not there yet on anything.  And, the definition of completion itself keeps evolving for me.  Just as I complete one layer of these creative endeavors, another deeper layer suddenly appears.  Like peeling an onion, or opening a matryoshka—the Russian nesting doll that as you open it reveals a smaller and smaller doll inside the other.  The innermost doll is typically a baby made of one single piece of wood.  How intricate, how small, how different will the final completion layer “baby” be for each project?  I can’t wait to find out!!!! Until tomorrow, create from what you have…another layer to discover. Kelli...

Creating 2015—Day 109:   Game of Thrones

17 minutes until episode two of season five starts!  That’s right.  I’m a Game of Thrones fan.  Not the book series, never read it.  I love the TV series.  (Not enough to partake in the recent pirating of the first four episodes and being posted online before they officially aired on HBO.  That actually makes me sick to my stomach.  I stand behind HBO doing whatever it takes to stop it and prosecute any and all who were or are involved in it, or even watched it.  I am strongly against piracy.) My niece and contributor to the site Alexandra Joan Bennett is who first told me the show was awesome and I should watch it.  It still took me a year or so to actually give it a...

Creating 2015—Day 108:   “While We’re Young”

We did something today we rarely do anymore.  We went to the movies! We’re cleansing so we skipped the popcorn, soda and candy but it was great fun being in an actual movie theatre.  The movie theatre is where I used to live!  And I always got there early so I didn’t miss any of the previews.  I love previews.  But between our 60” flat screen TV and Netflix I never need to leave the house.  So it was a nice reminder just how delicious it is to enjoy a good movie on the big screen. Fortunately, the film we decided to go see was actually good!  It was “While We’re Young” directed by Noah Baumbach starring Naomi Watts, Ben Stiller, Adam Driver and Amanda Seyfried.  I...

Creating 2015—Day 107:   A Much-Needed Dose of Mentorship

I had a lovely meeting with Angela C. Lee at Film Independent today.  As part of a Filmmaker Pro membership you get a consultation with the resident producer—who is Angela— to pick their brain about your upcoming project.  Lucky me.  She was delicious!  Smart, seasoned, no-nonsense, and accomplished in a way I aspire to be.  Her labor of love, Songs My Brother Taught Me, a Kickstarter financed indie feature she’d been working on for a few years, premiered at Sundance in January and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize.  I can’t wait to see it. I was reminded of how much I love connecting with other filmmakers! But more importantly, her energy, experience and...

Creating 2015—Day 106:   Day 4 Not Off To A Good Start

“It is suggested that you do not engage in heavy physical exercise on the cleansing days.”  Oops!  It’s Day 4 of my 11 day cleanse.  I felt great when I woke up—light and energized.  So, of course, I automatically decided to go on a bike ride.  I suspect where I went wrong was taking my birth control pill, downing the cleanse drink and swallowing their “accelerator” capsule which contains green tea and cayenne pepper as the two main ingredients right before the work out.  The bike ride was vigorous to say the least and was rather challenging considering I didn’t have a lot of gas in the tank after yesterday’s deep cleanse day—which went great by the way and thus I was...

Creating 2015—Day 105:   Day 3 of a New Cleanse

My third day cleansing is coming to an end!  I made it!  It’s only a total of 11 days, which isn’t too crazy.  Eight more to go.  Long story short my health has been super out of whack lately and I need to reset myself. The 21-day Clean cleanse is usually my go-to cleanse but it’s been challenging lately to focus and commit for that long.  Last time I did I failed miserably and quit after two weeks.  So, Uh-mazing Romantic Partner suggested I try a shorter cleanse, one he did back in November.  He found it easy and it did wonders for his health and energy.  It’s basically a shake, meal, shake kinda thing with a day or two interspersed of a more intense, deep cleansing...

Creating 2015—Day 104:   Can’t Sleep

All this social media activity has me wired!  It’s 1am and I’m still wide-awake.  Oy.  Oh wait, there was a yawn—the first hint of getting tired. Thank goodness!  I need to sleep.  Otherwise, I’ll ruin my entire day tomorrow…errr, well, today.  I also got wired from a call I had earlier.  I received a nice shot in the arm from my original Collusions director (she moved to New Jersey), the amazingly talented Brenda Collins Decesare.  I sent her my script for Death Over 3 Bottles of Wine a while ago to get her thoughts and she had finally found time to read it.  The timing was perfect for not only her complimentary comments about the screenplay—my day began with a film...

Creating 2015—Day 103:   Collusions’ Twitter

I got the twitter account for Collusions set up!  Woo hoo!  It’s nice to have one more thing checked off the list.  If you’re on Twitter, please follow and share!  Because I am way too exhausted to do any promotion for it. Next up on my list is to find a social media coordinator to take over all of this shit for me.  It’s too much!  Man oh man am I tweeted and twittered and face booked and social media in general’d out! Note to self: grow my company to the point it has a full staff and a proper infrastructure. Until tomorrow, create from what you have…a staff of one. Kelli Joan Bennett is a filmmaker, actress, writer, entrepreneur, advocate for creative thinking...
