Daily Dose—BEGIN!

What is in you? Bring it forth! Everyone has something inside them they’re dreaming to create—a song, a dance, a cake, an idea, a company, a school, a book, a building, a dream, a film, a story, a savings, a family, an education, an adventure, a home.  What creation is inside of you?  And what would happen if you simply started working on it?  Quietly, consistently, gently giving it attention, energy and action?  It doesn’t have to be some big drama or proclamation.  It can simply be an internal shift, a clear decision, a meaningful step in the direction of your dream. Write the first sentence. Make the appointment. Buy the ingredients. Turn on the music....

A Battered Dream

A Battered Dream

My head has been in dreams since yesterday afternoon when I went to the post office and there was a lone dream in the box.  Lined, frayed and battered, it looked like it had made a long, hard journey.  Which, considering its softness, I suspect involved going through the wash! It’s appearance, more than the actual scrawled dream on the front, deeply impacted me.  It’s our dreams, those precious, secret wishes, longings, hopes, aspirations, that take the brunt of our abuse from insecurity, loss, rejection, fear, disappointment, doubt, hurt.  You name it, they take it.  How battered are our dreams?! Last night, I posted the featured dream of the week…not...

Tembi Locke Launches “The Kitchen Widow”

Posted by

One of the stars of my film Collusions, the amazingly talented Tembi Locke, has just launched an informative and incredibly inspiring website for anyone who has experienced loss in their life or is in the painful process of losing someone.  Tembi describes the site as, “A place where we inspire connection and support in times of illness and grief.”  How perfect and much needed is that?!?  Especially during the holidays.  After losing My Dad this year, the theme and tone and love radiating from The Kitchen Widow felt like a warm, comforting blanket around my shoulders.  And I felt compelled to share it with you. The site was inspired by Tembi’s personal...

7 Paths to Thinking Outside The Box Inside The Box  and creating from what you have   1.  NO MORE WAITING.  You have two carrots, an onion, a bouillon cube, a bag of rice, an egg and a spice rack:  GO!  What would you make from the limited items you have?  You wouldn’t starve.  You’d get creative.     Don’t wait.  Start creating from what you have right now. 2.  SHIFT YOUR THINKING.  “Think Outside The Box Inside The Box” is a paradox to shift your thinking from limited thoughts, fear of lack and being trapped and powerless to being in control and empowered.  If the box is your life, exactly as it is, start there.  Instead of looking outside...

Day 176: A Serious Dream

Day 176.  I decide to go for an extra long walk.  I’m up to two walks a day—one in the am and one in the pm.  I missed both yesterday.  Donning a seriously large straw hat and my prized fanny pack that was given to me by Joie de vivre I think like 19 years ago—it had been her mother’s before she passed and I always think of her when I have it on…I probably shouldn’t admit this but Jessica visits me in my dreams usually about once a year, and, I believe, she guards me from the judgmental and negative stares I receive while wearing her fanny pack…hopefully, she throws in some protection from the judging of the hat for good measure—I set out.  The sun is shining, the birds...

Day 154: Artist As Entrepreneur

Day 154.  I received a package yesterday.  It contained a 12×12 canvas of my friend May Charter’s photograph.  I purchased it from her artist Instacanvas page, which is apparently an offshoot of Instagram?  I pretty much know nothing about either one because I’m not a photographer.  The photograph on the canvas is beautiful.  It was super easy to order.  It was fairly inexpensive as art goes.  It got here in just a couple days.  In a nutshell, it was a piece of cake to support my friend’s art.  I love it!  She is an artist being an entrepreneur.  It has me thinking about the very idea of creative people monetizing their work.  Today, more than ever, it’s possible...
