Creating 2015—Day 31:   A month already?!

The one thing that is a little disconcerting about my daily writing ritual of documenting my days on this blog is that I am so aware of how freaking fast the time is flying!  January is already over!  How crazy is that?  Pretty crazy.  But, the good news is, there’s still 11 more months left to accomplish all we want to accomplish in 2015!  Which reminds me…I’m supposed to have already set my goals for the year!  I have not officially set them just yet.  I’ve been thinking a lot about what I want to do this year though.  There are a million things I want to do, create, accomplish! So, I’m meditating on it.  What truly matters to me?  What am I most passionate...

Creating 2015—Day 30:   Will it happen?

I don’t want to jinx it BUT, this could be it.  The final frontier…finishing Collusions!  As of this second, the stars are seemingly aligned and it looks like we are on schedule to finish the score this weekend, do the sound mix next Monday and Tuesday, do color correction Thursday and Friday, opening titles and closing credits the following Monday, output that night and actually make the extended Film Independent member deadline of the Los Angeles Film Festival.  O. M. G.  I am sooooooo ready to finish this baby and send it out into the world!  Cross your  fingers! Until tomorrow, create from what you have…fingers to cross. Kelli Joan Bennett is a filmmaker,...

Creating 2015—Day 29: Death & Movement

I was still mired in sadness around my old friend’s death all day today—intermittently weepy, foggy and funky.  Apparently, his body isn’t back from Las Vegas, which is why the service hasn’t been scheduled yet.  Best Friend From High School and I were emailing back and forth a lot today.  She’s a rock star.  She already ordered a flower arrangement from our class in our school colors.  Which reminds me, I need to get a check in the mail to help cover the expense.  She tells me she was doing good until she burst into tears with the flower lady.  She can’t stop thinking about the fact that Eddie left a wife and six kids and was a great dad. The biggest lament...

Creating 2015—Day 28:  Accounting Funk

Let me first say, I almost forgot to write a post for today!  I’m in my jammies ready to crawl into bed for sleepy time. Ever since finding out my high school classmate—My Homecoming King—passed away yesterday, I’ve been in a fog, and honestly, a funk.  Which isn’t the best way to be when you need to do accounting and cost reports.  And doing accounting and cost reports is exactly what I was doing all day.  And will be doing for the next week!  Long story.  In a nutshell, it’s for tying up loose ends for my documentary film, High School 911. Best Friend From High School emailed me that Eddie’s picture is up on the funeral home’s website but no mention of the date of his...

Creating 2015—Day 27:   My Homecoming King

I’m about to head out for a walk when I check my emails one last time.  Why I check me emails, I’m not sure.  It’s compulsive.  I’m surprised to see one from my best friend from high school with the subject:  Classmate.  Huh.  I haven’t heard from Kerri in forever.  I’m happy to see an email from her but I wonder what’s up.  She is writing to let me know that our classmate, Eddie, has just died.  “What?” I say out loud as I read the message, stunned.  She didn’t have the details but was trying to let everyone in our class know.  Which is not a large task.  My high school graduating class only had 19 people in it.  Minus Eddie, we’re down to 18.  Wow.  My mind is blown....

Creating 2015—Day 26:   A Worthy Project

I wrote about my friend and Collusions star, Tembi Locke’s new website last month in my piece, Tembi Locke Launches The Kitchen Widow.  She is down to the last week of her Indiegogo campaign and she needs a push across the finish line to help reach her goal.  I am truly in love with this project and want to see it and Tembi succeed.  All of the content on the site is self-financed by Tembi, gratis to everyone who visits, and a generous give-back on Tembi’s part to help people in situations similar to the one she was in for 10 years—caregiving the love of her life, her husband Saro, through a battle with cancer—and the situation she is currently in as a widow.  I...

Creating 2015—Day 25:   Dawn

I finally slept eight straight hours without getting up to pee!  Now, I realize for many people that might not be something to boast about but for me, well, it is.  I’m a night pee-er.  Usually at least once, half way through my slumber, I wake up in the middle of the night to go whiz.  The main reason is because I’m also a night tea drinker.  I’ve tried to break myself of this habit but I do love my cup o’ chamomile before bed.  I also have a few vitamins I take with water right before bed.  Thus, my peeing mid-way through sleepy time issues.   It’s fuzzy in my brain now but I’m pretty sure I did NOT have my tea last night before bed, just took my vitamins.  That...

Creating 2015—Day 24:   Where Has All My Energy Gone?

I don’t know who said it but they were right.  You need a vacation from your vacation!  I am bone tired.  I am hoping it is simply from the crazy amount of traveling I’ve done in the last few months and most recently, in the last month.  But I worry.  I worry there is a sinister underlying cause.  Like I’m fighting something off.  So many people on the plane on Wednesday were hacking and it seems lots of folks are or have been sick.  I really don’t want to get sick right now!  Of course, who ever wants to get sick?  Nobody. Getting sick right now would suck because I have so much to do.  First on the list: unpacking.  Yep.  That’s right.  I haven’t even unpacked since I...
