Day 213: Unexpected Gifts

Day 213: Unexpected Gifts

Day 213.   Uh-mazing Romantic Partner stands in my office door.  He holds a package in one hand and his other hand is on his hip.  Full scowl.  “What?” I ask.  “This package is from Amazon,” he says like an accusation.  I momentarily freeze.  Did I order something else from Amazon?  I think.  Finally, “no, that’s impossible, I didn’t order anything else!”  I don’t think.  A little backstory for my new readers:  I’m a total book whore.  I LOVE books.  I love buying them, having them, looking at them, reading them.  But at the end of last year, when I decided to put everything into my new venture, I realized, I needed to stop spending hundreds of dollars a month on...

Day 212: Dream Card Dropping

Day 212. I began my Dream card dropping day by bringing Dream Postcards to Jennifer at Muse on 8th to refill her holder.  When I arrived, she was completely empty!  I stocked her up at her request and she is generously going to refill it as it empties.  I took the opportunity to have some yummy lunch while I was there with Screenwriter Cindy.  We both had the egg salad.  Major yummmmmm.  Screenwriter Cindy is now scheduled to deliver her rewrite on August 6th.  I can’t wait to read it! Afterwards, I met Joie de vivre and we headed out to Larchmont Village.  We walked around dropping dream cards everywhere anyone would let us.  A lot of places had community boards we...

How brave are you?

Morning Motivation   Instead of thinking that waking up is an entitlement, shift and see it as the gift it is—another chance to create meaning, purpose and art.  Your actual, literal life is the most obvious, the most basic and the most important thing you have to create from.  You woke up this morning.  You’re alive!  Are you brave enough to let the fact that you won’t always be motivate you to make the air in your lungs count every day?  It’s easy to take your life for granted.  Don’t.  Each inhale, each exhale is a breath to create from.  Make the most of it.  Wake up.  Breathe.  Create. Be brave. Start creating. From what you have…Life. What are you going...

Day 211: Dream Advocates Rock!

Day 211.   Jennifer Ritchkoff is an incredibly talented actress and owner of the amazing Muse on 8th café and I’m lucky she’s also my friend.  I first met Jen back in 2002, I think?  Somewhere around then, when I joined a women’s group founded by Screenwriter Cindy called The Powder Network.  She has been an inspiration to me ever since as she has continued to create her dreams and never give up.  She has not only prominently placed a Dream Postcard box on her café’s counter but she has also had the awesome idea to have a Declare Your Dream Discussion and Workshop at the café!  Details will be forthcoming on how you can be a part of it. In the meantime, get into Muse on...

What motivates you?

Morning Motivation   Without motivation of some kind—positive or negative—action isn’t taken.  But, the source of motivation is unique to every person.  What motivates one person doesn’t necessarily motivate another.  The key to understanding what motivates you is understanding what matters to you.  If something motivates you it has meaning to you.  Without meaning there is no motivation.  What matters to you—deeply, truly, madly?  Money, friends, fame, family, health, travel, love, giving, making a difference?  Figure out what means the most to you in your life and let it motivate you to create from what you have. Meaning is oxygen to motivation. Motivation...

Day 210: Caution: Writer in the Flow!

Day 210: Don’t get excited.  I’m not the writer that’s in the flow.  I wish.  But no, it’s not me, not by a long shot.  Although I am happy to report that Final Draft is officially loaded onto my laptop.  My heart skipped a beat when I typed FADE IN.  A sign?  I hope so.  But that’s as far as I got.  I now have to figure out how to get my 55 pages written on my old iMac in Final Draft 5 (the version I just loaded is version 8 that’s how behind I was) transferred over.  I might have to retype the whole thing, who knows?  I’ll let you know.  Regardless, I officially have no excuse not to work on my script wherever I am—I’m portable.  I can also now open...

What do you have?

Morning Motivation   It only feels like what you don’t have is what you need.  Instead of focusing on what you don’t have—whatever you think that might be…enough money, the right looks, the best house, opportunities, youth, age, experience, support—think about what you do have.  See it all with fresh eyes.  Consider its potential.  Rearrange it.   Shift your ideas of it.  Look at it from a different angle.  Get creative with what you already have.  When we create from what we have, what we have expands. We always have enough to create something from—a smile, kindness, love, an idea, a new choice. Be fearless. Create something. What are you going to create?  ...

Day 209: Mishmosh of Movement

Day 209.  I bought the latest version of Final Draft!  Woo hoo!  Breaking down all possible excuses, people!  Granted, I haven’t loaded it onto my Macbook Pro yet.  But that’s the plan for tomorrow.  That and to dust off the cobwebs and crack open the script.  Wish me luck. Lunch with Talented Actor Friend today was lovely.  He’s such a dear, kind soul.  He brightens my life.  Oh, and I also remembered to bring him the book Ignore Everbody.  No, I didn’t get it all read again but that’s okay.  If it inspires and motivates him, then that makes me happy. Josh from the editing team said he’s almost done with a scene.  Awesome.  I’m actually behind on my doc work. I need to...

Day 208: Dream Team

Day 208. We met at Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza in Studio City.  Me, Producing Partner, Dan the Amazing Editor Man, his brother Dave, Tyler, and Josh.  A motley crew we are, but a good one, I believe.  Well, the only one I have, so as far as I’m concerned, we’re a dream team. The perfect editing team to finally finish my documentary, High School 911, after a year of production, 1200 hours of footage and five years of my life.  I have to trust that the Universe has brought me the exact mix of experience and fresh faced enthusiasm to pull it off. I met Josh and Tyler and Dave for the first time, we talked creative, we ate pizza, Tyler got dessert because he...
