Creating 2015—Day 20:   Exploring Napa

We pulled the trigger on the Fairmont in Sonoma for one main reason…the package deal!  We had 48 hours and knew we were going to sleep a ton, eat and go to the spa and that would be about it.  And, despite my initial grumblings about the exterior cleanliness of the joint and the scuffed furniture interior, we had an amazing bang for your buck kind of experience!  We got the rejuvenation package: a mission suite room—fireplace, Jacuzzi tub and fireplace—breakfast for two each morning, and two spa treatments a day.  We never got the fireplace...

Travel Column: Up and Away, Down to Earth—St. Andrews, Scotland

Posted by on Oct 14, 2014 in Travel, Up and Away, Down to Earth by Stephanie Weyant | 2 comments

Dear friends, I can’t tell you how much fun I had writing this article.  St. Andrews, Scotland is near and dear to my heart, a town where my happiest college memories took place.  It was here in the years 2002-2003 that I spent time studying abroad, and I’ll never forget the impact it had, how the experiences shaped me, and how the people I met are still great friends to this day. As you dive in, you’ll notice that this is about a year late.  I again submitted it to the New York Times last November 2013 – the 10th anniversary since I had...

Travel Column: Up and Away, Down to Earth—The Outer Banks, Corolla, North Carolina

Posted by on Oct 2, 2013 in COLUMNS, THINK BLOG, Travel, Up and Away, Down to Earth by Stephanie Weyant | 4 comments

Dear Friends, This month’s escape, in many ways, is a trip of firsts: the first trip with my beau and his children; the first trip with he and his friends; and the first trip to the Outer Banks along the Atlantic Ocean in North Carolina. For anyone else, it might be intimidating. But I was excited.  I had listened to the laugh-out-loud stories, heard about unforgettable memories, and was captivated by the pictures.  And I wanted to be a part of it.  Our hosts – Tommy’s best friend since college and his lovely wife – could not have been more...

This month, I want to share with you a weekend in New York on the cheap: stay Friday through Sunday and it can only cost you $123 for meals, transportation,...

Travel Column: Up and Away, Down to Earth—Boston, Massachusetts

Posted by on Jun 11, 2013 in THINK BLOG, Travel, Up and Away, Down to Earth by Stephanie Weyant | 2 comments

Dear Friends, Recently I had a birthday, and my dear boyfriend wanted to give me a new adventure to celebrate.  Knowing me and knowing us, it was the perfect, thoughtful gift.  Our destination?  Boston, Massachusetts for the weekend.  For me, it was a city so close yet so far: one I had never visited but always wanted to see. If you appreciate a clean and lively city, beer and good food, baseball, or especially American history, Boston should be on your list of places to go.  Especially given the tragic events of this year’s marathon,...
