In The Trenches—The Founder’s Daily Report: Day 366: That’s a wrap!

Day 366:  Doing something daily—unless it’s brushing your teeth, going to the bathroom or eating—is surprisingly not so easy to do or to keep up.   Therefore, I must quote Bluto from Animal House, “holy shith!”  I did it.   I never missed a day!  I may not have accomplished any of my actual goals in my yearlong experiment in prolific creativity but I did accomplish writing a report about my experience thinking outside the box inside the box and creating from what I had every freaking day.  Granted, there was one day when I only wrote 3 words.  But still.  To quote Carl from Caddyshack, “So, I got that going for me.”  Woo hoo! I’m not sure if being hyper aware of each...

Monday Motivation — What’s next?

What’s next?   New Year’s Eve brings with it the excitement of possibility—the possibility and the promise of every one of the 365 days in the coming new year.  What will the days bring?  What will you do with each day?  Will you do the same things you’ve always done—eat the same food, go to the same places, do the same things?  Or, will you try something new, something fresh, something different?  Will you take a chance this year—on love, with a project, for a friend?  Will you risk being wrong, humiliated, embarrassed, or failing?  What will you do with the New Year?  It’s a wrapped gift that only you get to imagine what’s inside.  The New Year is yours to...

In The Trenches—The Founder’s Daily Report: Day 365: In Search of Momma

Day 365:  Our entire cast so far for my film project number one has come from my creative team’s pool of friends or friends of friends.  We haven’t gone through any agents and I haven’t had to put out a breakdown for any of the roles…yet.  There is one character, an African American woman in her 60’s who is the mother of one of my lead actresses, I have yet to find.  It’s not a big part but it’s a really lovely role, a nice cameo for an amazing actress.  I have a few leads and I’m calling a gal today to talk to her.  I hope she has an online picture and resume!  Fingers crossed.  If you have any suggestions for Momma, send them my way! Until tomorrow, create from what...

In The Trenches—The Founder’s Daily Report: Day 364: Getting there!

Day 364:  Had a lovely day with my character and her lines yesterday!  I had a hit that I want to shadow my friend’s husband who works as an LA County Public Defender to get a sense of the truth of that world because my character is a Deputy District Attorney.  Will send that email this morning.  But what I really want to do is meet the brand new District Attorney, Jackie Lacey!  She was recently sworn in as District Attorney on December 3, 2012.  She is the first woman and first African-American to serve as Los Angeles County District Attorney since the office was created in 1850.  Inspiring. On another exciting side-note, my director is putting down the deposit for...

In The Trenches—The Founder’s Daily Report:  Day 363:  Lines and intentions and shoes, oh my!

Day 363: Okay, it’s time to get serious.  Serious about working on my character’s intention, motivation and lines!  I’ve worked on her a little bit every day but I have to go into full time mode at this point.  I seriously have to step into her shoes.  Actually, I have to create her shoes…well, literally, I have to go find her shoes.   I’ll be going on a shopping spree with our wardrobe girl, Amy, very soon. Fun, fun! Until tomorrow, create from what you have…shoes to fill. In The Trenches—The Founder’s Daily Report: Day 362: Can’t sleep!

Day 362: I can’t sleep.  Probably because I took a Benadryl last night and slept 12 hours.  I’ve been breaking out in hives so much lately—AKA Urticaria and Angioedema.  Especially on my face.  Christmas day I had a total of three huge ones in various places on my face throughout the day—corner of left eye lid, lower right lip and right side of my forehead.  Thus, the reason I popped an allergy pill. I am trying to take advantage of my inability to fall asleep by working on my character and her lines.  I’m really starting to love this woman I’m playing.  I admire her drive and determination. Wait, what is that I feel?  Sleepy?  I think so.  I’d better take advantage of...

In The Trenches—The Founder’s Daily Report: Day 361: Tough Transition

Day 361: I wasn’t quite ready to get back in the groove today!  This is such a tough time to transition back into work mode.  I mean, come on, it’s the week between Christmas and New Year’s.  All I want to do is eat, drink and be merry!  But, alas, I must get my shit back together and get my SAG paperwork finished, finalize the budget, memorize an ass load of lines, get my character’s wardrobe together, do an on-camera make-up test—to name just a few things on the to-do list.  Deep sigh. Here’s hoping tomorrow my holiday cookie coma will subside and my enthusiasm to kick some serious ass on my movie project will have returned. Note to self:  my next film will have a...

In The Trenches—The Founder’s Daily Report: Day 360: In The Spirit

Day 360: This is the first year Uh-Mazing Romantic Partner and I have gone all out with a Christmas tree and the whole nine since 2008.  It’s been a busy last four years.  For starters, we’re usually not even home at this time of year.  We’re usually visiting family in the Midwest or back east.  But not this year.  This year we are home together creating a beautiful holiday memory just for us.  And beautiful it is. I hope you are creating a beautiful holiday season.  You continue to honor me and give me an incredible gift by being on this journey with me.  Thank you.  Thank you so much.  I’m sending you peace, love, light and positive energy to create all of your...
