Day 244: Once in a Blue Moon

Day 244: Once in a Blue Moon

Day 244. At 7:13pm tonight the second full moon of the month began to rise in Los Angeles.  I can still see it out my front bay window right now.  It’s beautiful.  A “blue” moon doesn’t actually mean the moon changes colors, it just means that there are two full moons in one month.  And it doesn’t happen that  often.  Thus the saying, “once in a blue moon.”  The last one was on New Year’s Eve of 2009.  It has me thinking about how I don’t want to wait until the next blue moon to create my dreams.  I want to create them now.  I want to create them every day until I’m living my dreams every day.  Hold on.  I think I feel a “once in a blue...

Are you reinventing?

Posted by

Morning Motivation   Are you stuck?  Does it all look the same?  Is your vision blurring?  STOP whatever you’re doing and reinvent it all!  Close your eyes.  Visualize the situation, the problem, the creation in another color, as if it wasn’t your problem, if the situation were under another set of circumstances.  Try something else.  Turn it upside down.  Take a piece away from it.  Walk away for five minutes.  Do whatever it takes to think, see, feel, act, and respond differently and reinvent how you’re thinking and reinvent what you have to create from!  Free up your mind to put odd things together to make it look fresh, new, weird.  Talk it out in another...

Rattlesnake Syndrome

Rattlesnake Syndrome

I’ve lived in the same town and in the same house my entire life.  Most of the people I graduated high school with I have known since I was four.  I know my home town like the back of my hand.   My grandma calls that Rattlesnake Syndrome.  Rattlesnakes can only live a few miles away from where they are born—they have very specific habitat requirements.  My decision to move over 700 miles away for college definitely meant I did not have Rattlesnake Syndrome!  Change was not something I was accustomed to which is why I think I was so eager for it. I went to school in a foreign place called Colorado, two states away from my family in Missouri.  I felt so special going so...

How high can you soar?

Morning Motivation Do you ever find yourself on a roll, in the flow, feeling magical only to suddenly stop it, your self, the creation when fear, doubt, panic, jealousy, anger, comparing, competing or the need for validation swoop in and crush your creative flight?  It’s time to let go of any restrictions!  It’s time to give you permission.  It’s time to fly without a ceiling.  Let yourself soar.  See how high you can go.  Find out what you can create at such heights. Let go of your fear. Forget your doubt. Release your anxiety. Give yourself permission to soar. Create from what you have—an infinite stratosphere. What are you going to create?  ...

Day 242: Thanks for the Shift

Day 242.  I received the perfect email from a reader yesterday.  It was in response to my daily report about my most recent tooth troubles.  He wrote, “I had a filling come out!  Big deal.  I got infected.  Big deal.  It almost killed me.  Still alive!  Got swimmers ear, got super infected, almost killed me.  No fun but still ticking.  Getting to it early is the deal!  Hope you get better.  Your friend, Timex.”  This made me smile when I read it and it’s making me smile again right now.   Why?   Because it instantly shifts me!  It’s such a great reminder that we can, “take a licking and keep on ticking,” which is actually a registered slogan of the Timex watch company...

What is feeding you?

Posted by

Morning Motivation   You control what feeds you, literally as well as figuratively—food, drink, friends, family, news, books, entertainment, communication, community.  Instead of mindlessly accepting whatever comes your way to feed your mind, body and spirit, consciously choose what feeds you.  What are you choosing to eat?  What are you choosing to drink?  Who are you choosing to spend your time with?  Who are you surrounding yourself with?  What are you looking at?  What are you letting in your brain?  Where are you living?  How are you living?  Create the mind, body and spirit you aspire to have by carefully selecting what feeds you.  Feed yourself well. Feed...

Day 241: Maybe a Set Back

Day 241.  I’m starving.  I bite into a spoonful of much anticipated turkey chili I have just spent the last two hours preparing.  My taste buds explode as it reaches my tongue but my teeth are a different story.  I feel an odd pressure near the site of the big hole in my mouth—AKA my dental implant.  Yes, I have a screw in my head.  I hope it isn’t loose.  I’m so hungry I ignore the weird almost pain and eat up the yumminess.  As I start to clean up the dishes after, I run my tongue over the gap to my gum.  I can feel a big bump that was not there this morning.  Uh oh.  I run to the bathroom to look.  There’s a swollen nodule at my surgery site.  I’m screwed.  The...
