In The Trenches—The Founder’s Daily Report: Day 359: 3Weeks to go!

Day 359:  Three weeks from today we will begin filming my first project in my slate of three films—yes, the three films I was supposed to be done with in 7 days.  Best laid plans. I woke up this morning from dreaming about it.  In my dream all the dialogue had been turned into Shakespearean style but I seemed fine with it.  There was also a flood going on as we were trying to film but again, I was calm, cool and collected.  Apparently, I’m subconsciously ready for anything. Until tomorrow, create from what you have….3 weeks to go. Kelli Joan Bennett is a filmmaker, actress, writer, entrepreneur, advocate for creative thinking and Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Think...

In The Trenches—The Founder’s Daily Report: Day 358: Inspiring New Dreams!

Day 358: I’ve been so busy lately I haven’t been on my regular every two-week visit to the PO Box to collect dreams.  Yesterday, after such a crazy and stressful week with the film, I realized I had to make time and get in there and see if there were any new dreams.  Waiting to inspire me were nine new beautiful dreams!  Each new dream lifted my spirits and opened my heart.  The best holiday gift ever.  Thank you, Dreamers! The new Dreamers have been welcomed, their dreams prayed for and metaphorically sent off to the Universe to manifest for the Dreamer and the new Dreams have been scanned and added to the Declare Your Dream Experimental Motivation Project on the site....

In The Trenches—The Founder’s Daily Report: Day 357: I love my truck!

Day 357: This morning is all about getting old Red smog checked.  She is officially 19 years old!  I think. I got her in November 1993 or was it 1994?  I can’t remember.  Either way, my truck is a dinosaur.  But I still love her!  And, she gets to be a movie star very soon.  She’s one of the movie character’s wheels!  My good old truck will have her glorious day in the sun. Until tomorrow, create from what you have…old stuff. In The Trenches—The Founder’s Daily Report: Day 356: The Ending Is Just The Beginning

Day 356:  I saw a sign on Facebook that read, “the world isn’t going to end, it’s already tomorrow in Australia.”  And, poor NASA.  They’ve been flooded with questions about the world ending today.  Well, I’m happy to report that at 12:12am on 12/21/12, I’m still here and so is my movie project.  What looked like it might be an ending has turned out to be just the beginning.  And I have Uh-Mazing Romantic Partner, who apparently knows me better than I know myself, to thank.  He worked some serious magic to keep me together—because I was falling apart—and keep my team together—there was some “fuck you” drama—and keep all of us moving in the direction of our dream of...

In The Trenches—The Founder’s Daily Report: Day 355: Time to get Zen!

Day 355:  I’ve made a decision.  It’s time to get Zen!  Right after I speak with the New Media Contract department at SAG to find out if we switch to that agreement whether or not we can go to film festivals and sell our film—a concern raised.  If we don’t go with the New Media Contract that brings me right back to where I was before:  over budget.  Deep sigh. We brought on a wonderful young woman to do our wardrobe last night.  She just arrived in LA three months ago from Chicago and she’s making a go at becoming a costume designer.  I simply love it that we can give her this opportunity.  If I actually pull off making this film that is. Uh-Mazing Romantic Partner...

In The Trenches—The Founder’s Daily Report: Day 354: 12 Days!

Day 354:  Wow.  After today, there is 12 days left in the year!  Personally, I’m having a complete and total panic attack.  I had hoped sleep would calm me the hell down but it hasn’t.  I’d like to do one of three things this morning: Crawl under a rock. Fly to a tropical island. Change my name, move to Vegas and put it all on black. Deep sigh. How is your day going? Until tomorrow, create from what you have…12 days left in 2012. In The Trenches—The Founder’s Daily Report: Day 353: SAG Solution

Day 353:  We are 9k over budget.  And what is costing us 9k?  Going SAG Ultra Low Budget!  UGH.  I want to be able to pay my actors a little something!  Actors always get the shaft.  But my Co-Producer spoke to SAG today and since we don’t have distribution yet, they recommended to her that we simply go with the New Media contract.  The New Media Contract is deferred pay.  Deep sigh.  I’ve been avoiding that contract like the plague! Logically, I know this is a simple solution to our budget problem but I’ve spent the last couple of hours having a bit of an emotional meltdown over this new development.  Actually, I think I was living out the hysterical state that my...

In The Trenches—The Founder’s Daily Report: Day 352: Bring on the budgets!

Day 352: Oh man, am I tired. I had a wonderful rehearsal with my director and one of the actors today. Then I had a fantastic conversation with Amazing Friend/Mentor. What a light and a love she is! Then, I spent the rest of the day doing a budget template for a guestimation of our costs. We’re over by my calculations. Deep sigh. But I can’t even handle thinking about that right now. I have to go to sleep. I have another rehearsal tomorrow morning at 10am. Until tomorrow, create from what you have…the need to sleep. What NOW are you creating?   What are you going to be when you grow up?  Who are you going to spend the rest of your life with?  How are you building your career?  Are you making enough money to retire on? Is anyone going to know who you are from your work?  When will you finally be happy?  All interesting and important questions everyone will ponder at some point or another.  But the most important question you need to answer right now is what NOW are you creating?  Right now is all we have.  Yes, you want to be something amazing when you grow up.  Yes, you want to spend the rest of your life with someone you love.  Yes, you want to build your career into...
