The amazing Derek Meeker!!!! I met Derek six years ago in rehearsals for the play The Columbine Project that started at the Avery Schreiber Theatre in NoHo and eventually wound up in NYC at the Actors Temple for an Off-Broadway run.
He was playing the role of the reporter who opens the show plus a couple other parts throughout and I was playing the mom of one of the killers. We instantly hit it off. For starters, he’s incredibly talented. And I’m attracted to talent. Beyond that, he’s just good people! He’s smart, gorgeous, kind, and creative. What’s not to love? Oh, and did I mention that he went to law school? So there’s that delicious sexiness. After law school he went on to become the Dean of Admissions at the University of Pennsylvania (yes, that little old ivy league college) and most recently was the recruiting manager for Paul Hastings.
We connected for lunch at Café Gratitude on Larchmont today. Oh, it was great seeing him and catching up! We hadn’t seen each other since back in August 2014 when he came to the test screening of my documentary film High School 911—which he loved. At lunch he gave me a big shot of confidence by reiterating just how much he loved the film and that we are so going to get into festivals and get the film distributed. Thank you for that, Derek!!! Needed it. Add “supportive” to his list of yummy qualities.
After recently launching his new consulting business, Dean Meeker—Law School Admissions Consulting, and leaving Paul Hastings he told me today that, although he is super busy with his consulting clients, he is putting a portion of his attention back on his actor. Woo hoo! That makes me so happy! You might have seen him in a recent PetCo commercial or on All My Children. He’s been auditioning like crazy for the last two weeks and already has two callbacks this week! Amazing.
So, that’s my amazing friend Derek in a nutshell. If you need help with getting into law school, he’s your guy. And, if you need a talented actor for your commercials, web series, TV shows or movies he’s also your guy! A multi-talented man I am so happy and thankful to call my friend.
Until tomorrow, create from what you have…amazing, talented friends.
