Day 91: Love Celebration!

Day 91.  Gotta make this a short report.  Good day with Scene 15.  Still quite a bit to do on it but I should be able to finish it off tomorrow.  Although, I’m tentatively meeting with Director Brenda and Screenwriter Monica in Santa Monica at 5pm which makes me wonder how I’m going to get my Script Frenzy work in which starts tomorrow as well.  Not going to worry about it because right now I’ve got to shut down the Avid, clean myself up and head out to a wedding reception for two incredibly amazing women; Joie de vivre and Beautiful Bride.  I’m still a tad wonky from the oral surgery but I simply can’t miss this celebration of love and get...

Day 90: 10 Years

Day 90.  A friend’s husband passed away.  My heart broke when I heard the news.  He touched my life in a subtle yet profound way.  He was a lovely man with a sweet smile and a generous soul and he leaves an incredibly devoted and amazing wife and daughter.  It was 2002 when he was diagnosed with cancer and when he began what would end up being the last 10 years of his life.  I was in acting class with her at the time and it was an intense and transformative experience trying to support her through the early months of his treatment.  But, like a child, when he made progress and seemed to be doing better, I checked it off of my list with the mental note; he will live...

Day 89: Back to class

Day 89.  No drilling into my head this morning.  But there was some futzing and poking and examining that caused some all around general discomfort.  I did get an, “I’m so proud of you,” from the oral surgeon.  Didn’t see that coming.  Apparently, I took good care of my stitches and surgery wounds.  He told me that often his patients come in for their follow up and everything is inflamed and wonky.  So that’s good news.  But, the aforementioned discomfort caused me to cancel a play date with one of my favorite people on the planet and her daughter at Joie de vivre and beautiful bride’s house.  Sad face.  I came home instead and medicated with some soft leftovers:...

Day 88: They’re baaaack!

Day 88.  I wake up from a crazy dream where my oral surgeon is drilling a hole in my head at my follow up appointment.  Disturbing.  I hope tomorrow at my actual appointment no drills are involved. I decide to flip my day.  I normally immediately turn on my cell phone and my laptop to check emails and Facebook and then write my daily report.  Today, I decide to flip that around and do it all at the end of the day instead.  I only turn on my cell long enough to check for emergencies and Facebook a quick “congrats” to a friend who is about to give birth via C-section.  I fire up the Avid.  I’m determined to get a lot done for my crusade today. Midway through the day I am...

Day 87: Crusade Continues

Day 87.  It’s day two of my ten-week crusade to get through all my editing on the doc.  Yesterday was almost a success but I didn’t quite finish scene 12 even after a 10-hour editing day.  It’s like four scenes rolled into one and I’m doing full string outs of each one just so Dan the Amazing Editor Man will know what all is in each scene.  Oh, we just heard from him yesterday.  He’s back in action.  Yippee!  I’m not alone anymore.  He’s full time on a show right now but will be back on the doc on nights and weekends.  For the average person this wouldn’t necessarily yield much productivity but I don’t call him “amazing” for nothing.  He’s...

Day 86: Mondays

Day 86.  I can’t say I jumped out of bed with a spring in my step this morning.  It was more like I reluctantly peeked out from under my covers accepting my fate:  work.  It’s Monday.  Monday is the day when I start everything; from a new diet to a new nutrition plan to a new project to a new exercise program to a new book and on and on.  Even if it’s a Tuesday at 7am when the decision is made to start something I’ll say, “We’ll start on Monday.”  So what am I starting this Monday?  I’m starting a crusade to get my part of the editing done on the rest of the scenes for the documentary!  Does “crusade” sound a bit dramatic?  Well, it is but I need to be dramatic.  I need...

Day 85: Script Frenzy

Day 85.  I’d never heard of NaNoWriMo until Screenwriter Cindy told me about it last November.  She was participating in the National Novel Writing Month.  In other words, she wrote a novel in a month.  Sounds insane to me but she did it.  Did I mention she’s an amazing writer?  Screenwriter Monica is into NaNoWriMo, too and she’s currently writing a young adult novel just on her own.  These girls are real writers!  They inspire me.  I’ve been stuck on page 33 of my script for the experiment since last October.  Between the tooth troubles and the new venture I haven’t had much time to focus on it.  But now I’m going to get serious about finishing it.  I’ve got three...

Day 84: Back on the trail…

Day 84.  I’ve moved offices—from the guest bedroom to a fancy editing bay that has been set up in the middle “library” room in our house.  It’s state of the art and ready to go.  It includes a plasma TV wired directly to the Avid and a cool desk that moves up and down with the push of a button so I can sit or stand while I edit.  It’s pretty damn awesome but it doesn’t change, or make easier, the amount of work that still needs to be done.  Since the tragic news from Dan the Amazing Editor Man about his mother, I am an island—floating out in the vast documentary editing sea all alone.  My partner is traveling for his show for the next five weeks and I have no idea when...

Day 83: Necessary vs. Unnecessary Stops

Day 83.  Everything has pretty much come to a screeching halt for the last three days and will continue to be at a snail’s pace for the next week or so.  My resemblance to a chipmunk is diminishing though—hallelujah.  This morning I look more like bloated drunk.  I’ve been there before so I can handle this look better.  I was able to get off the crack—Vicodin—yesterday.  Woo hoo!  I can tell I’m healing as the swelling goes down and the pain lessens.  And whether I like it or not, healing takes time.  I simply can’t do everything I would normally do while I’m in the middle of it.  It stops me because it has to.  All this has me thinking about what else, besides health...
