In The Trenches–The Founder’s Daily Report: Day 275: GNP vs. GNH

Day 275:  I watched a lovely documentary yesterday called Happy.  We picked it just by name alone.  Tom Shadyac, who did the documentary I Am, executive produced it.  It was, obviously, about what makes us happy but it was also about how to get happier.  There’s a small landlocked state in South Asia, Bhutan, that is focusing on GNH versus GNP.  Gross National Happiness is more important than Gross National Product.  Happiness means more to them than money.  For us in the west, that’s a pretty hard concept to swallow.  But I loved it!  The film talked about the concept of what has intrinsic value make us happier than what has extrinsic value.  In the extrinsic camp:  money, things, image.  In the intrinsic camp:  gratitude, acts of kindness and spiritual practice.  If you get a chance, you should check out the film.  I was actually happier by the end of it.

All in all, my day off yesterday was a smashing success.  It took a while to shut my brain off from laundry listing all I needed to do but I eventually got there.  I was definitely cultivating my GNH.

Until tomorrow, create from what you have…and cultivate your happiness.
