Creating 2015—Day 34:   Good Day, Bummer Ending

After a long, full day working on both of my movies I arrive home to this waiting for me in the mailbox…

The dreaded jury summons.

The dreaded jury summons.

I sat on a jury once.  It went to trial and the whole nine.  I actually thought that made me exempt for like forever.  Apparently not!  The guy in the trial was in a gang and he had beat up his girlfriend or something like that.  This was awhile ago so my memory is fuzzy.  The threatened, battered girlfriend was the prosecution’s star witness but when she got on the stand in front of us, the jury, she recanted.  She perjured herself.  It was obvious someone had threatened her causing her to change her story but, alas, there was reasonable doubt.  We found him guilty on possession of an illegal firearm but we were hung on the two other counts he was being charged.  The law is some tricky shit.  They called it after a week.  So, it wasn’t like it was months of my life or anything.  But man oh man, the last thing I have any interest in doing is being a jury member on a trial again!  As I’m sure you know well, I have no choice.  It is my civic duty or some shit.  And unfortunately, I have no valid reason to say I can’t serve this go round.

Deep sigh.

I will register tomorrow.  I’m too wiped out right now.  I worry that since I was picked for a jury before I have a big SUCKER sign tattooed on my forehead and I’ll be picked again.  Oy.  The week I’m summoned is March 9th.  I’ll let you know.

Until tomorrow, create from what you have…jury duty.
