Creating 2015—Day 102:   Super Soul Sunday

This is week two of what I hope to be a new ritual for me.  Watching Super Soul Sunday with Oprah on Sunday mornings at 8am PT. I watched a few of them on demand and loved the energy, the message and how I felt after watching.

I just listened to Jon Kabat-Zinn, a scientist and pioneer of using mindfulness in medicine and author of the new book, “Mindfulness For Beginners“, talk with Oprah about what mindfulness is and how he practices it. Here are some gems from the talk…

“I see mindfulness as a love affair with life.”

“Mindfulness is not a concept, it is a practice.”

“Mindfulness is simple but not easy.”

“Mindfulness is paying attention and the awareness that comes from it. Mindfulness is on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgmental.”

“Mindfulness equals awareness.”

“To be mindful is to be full in this moment right now.”

“Your kids know when you’re present. And there is no greater gift than being present with your children.”

“Live your life as if it really matters.”

“Mindfulness is the direct opposite of taking life for granted.”

“As long as you are breathing, there is more right with you than wrong with you no matter what is wrong.”

“Mindfulness is a gateway into the full dimensionality of being human and being alive.”

The homework he gave was next time you are in the shower, notice whether you are actually in the shower or you are already in the meeting you have when you get to work. As soon as you check, you’re back. You’re in the shower, feeling the water as it falls on your back.

I’m going to give it a try this morning.

Until tomorrow, create from what you have…mindfulness.
