In the Trenches—Day 5 Year 2: Shopping Spree!

Day 5 Year 2:  Today is officially wardrobe day.  Our costume designer, Amy, sent me her “costume plot” for my character and a style board from Pinterest.  Now, I don’t really understand Pinterest so that is a tad confusing.  But anyhoo, my director also weighed in with his color scheme ideas.  My plan is to hit the Americana when it opens at 10am.  Although, I probably need to get to a Bloomingdale’s or a Macy’s, which I think there’s one of those in the Glendale Galleria. I’m not going to lie.  I’m not a big fan of shopping.  So right now, this feels like work to get out of my pajamas, stop working on lines and motivation and intention and go try on clothes!  But,...

In the Trenches—Day 4 Year 2: Almost Cast

Day 4 Year 2:  My director loved the actress he met with yesterday for the role of Stella.  So, we found another cast match.  Woo hoo!  That just leaves three more to go.  I have one cop to cast who has one line and must be non-professional because we’re out of SAG money.  And I’m still looking for a Momma, who I’d love to find a non-professional but we’re open to SAG because it’s a bigger role.  Talented Actress Friend sent me a suggestion yesterday and I forwarded onto my director.  She might be a little young looking even for make-up to age her but we’ll see.  Momma needs to be in her 60’s—or at least look like she is.  The third part we actually have someone on hold...

In the Trenches—Day 3 Year 2: Filed and Waiting

Day 3 Year 2:  Our SAG paperwork is all officially filed!  Even though it’s my union, they don’t make it terribly easy for true independent, no-budget productions to use SAG actors.  There was a pile of paperwork required and a vial of my blood.  I’d always heard they were difficult and a pain in the ass to go through but with the advent of SAGIndie, (who, when I spoke to someone there, was incredibly helpful but they are not actually a part of SAG), I thought that had all changed.  I was wrong. Now I wait to find out the amount of the deposit they will want.  To go through SAG you have to pay double what your SAG actors will cost you.  You pay a deposit of the total...

In the Trenches—Day 2 Year 2: Production Meeting

Day 2 Year 2:  I was not feeling well yesterday—no, I wasn’t hung over.  Regardless, it was not the most ideal way to start the New Year.    I hope it doesn’t lead to anything worse.  I don’t have time to be sick! This morning my creative team for film project number one has a production meeting at my house.  I’m meeting our new line producer and we’re going to hit the ground running.  I owe my SAG rep some more paperwork today—pre-production cast list, day out of days and a budget.  I’m still searching for an actress to play Momma.  I had three leads, two of which never sent me their headshot and resume and the third hasn’t called me back.  I still haven’t found my...

In the Trenches—Day 1 Year 2: Happy New Year and Here I Go…Again!

Day 1 Year 2:  Happy New Year and here I go…again! Today is the first day of year two in what has now officially become a two-year experiment in prolific creativity.  Why?  Because I’m not done!  Not even close.  With anything!  Seriously.  I didn’t get anything I set out to create completely created—except for 366 daily reports.  I don’t even have my dental implant done—I’m still missing a tooth!  Sheesh.  Thus, there’s a new theme in the mix for Year 2:  COMPLETION!  That’s right, completion is the goal.  I will continue thinking outside the box inside the box and creating from wherever I am with whatever I have but there is a specific focus now:  to complete the...
