Daily Dose—YOU CAN DO IT

Posted by

Afraid you’ll fail? Do it anyway!   Whatever it is, you can do it!  The only way to succeed is to first fail.  If we don’t fail, how will we ever figure anything out?   How will we ever know what works or what doesn’t work?  How will we ever know what matters enough to not give up?  Success is the result of failure or more likely a long string of failures.  Giving up is the only failure that is permanent. If you stop writing, you’ll never know if you could write an entire book.  If you stop drawing, you’ll never know if you could paint your dreams.  If you stop acting, you’ll never know if you could do a one-woman show.  If you stop working towards whatever it is...

Creating 2015—Day 322: I’M EXPANDING!

Creating 2015—Day 322: I’M EXPANDING!

Yes, my ass is expanding.  Unfortunately.  But that’s not what I’m talking about today!  What I’m referencing is the expansion of how I produce and what I am open to producing.  This past summer, I had the opportunity to work with Uh-mazing Romantic Partner creating and developing reality show concepts for a development deal he got, which was an unexpected blessing plus super fun and creative!  The experience, which is ongoing, really opened my mind to new arenas of creativity for me.  It made me take off my, “I only make movies” blinders. Now that my blinders have been tossed in the trash, I am excited to venture into a new creative arena for me: scripted series....

Creating 2015—Day 321: SUPPORT INDIE FILM

Yesterday, I had lunch with an indie film producer pal of mine I just adore…Mark Stolaroff.  He’s talented and a rare commodity in Hollywood…he’s a super nice guy!  I met him when I took his class, “The Art & Science of No-Budget Filmmaking” in August of 2012.  I loved the class and I made my first no budget feature film five months later.  I highly recommend it if you’re about to make an indie film or any film for that matter.  He not only teaches how to make films for 50 bucks and some twine, he’s also out there making them himself!  He’s truly in the trenches of being an indie filmmaker. His first feature premiered at Sundance back in 2001.  The...

Creating 2015—Day 319 to Day 320: DREAMS FOR 2016

I sit at my desk, green tea on one side of my laptop, a small green notepad on the other.  The early morning sun pours in from the window.  A perfect moment.  I capture it with a selfie for this post.  What’s on my mind?  My dreams for 2016! The small green notepad holds them, a list of nine.  I love lists!  I got that love from my mother.  She’s a major list-maker from as far back as I can remember.  Scribbled at the top is “2016.”  Below it, a list of my top dreams for the year.  Only the first two are technically personal.  The remaining seven are creative work projects, all in various stages—from an idea to films in the can that need to be finished and distributed....

Creating 2015—Day 316 to Day 318:  MAKING SPACE

Space was made yesterday.  Big space.  Not only in my film slate but also in my energy, my heart, my existential conundrum (AKA my ongoing midlife crisis).  Before I get into the muck of it, I want to give a huge shout out and thank you to Dear Friend—yes, the same dear friend in my last post who has her shit together in such a delicious and beautiful way…all the ways I do not.  Dear Friend came to my rescue yesterday. She not only talked me off an angry ledge but also helped me get to the core of what was really going on for me around this particular project. The project in question is a satirical self-help book and script based on said book I wrote with a partner 10...

Creating 2015—Day 160 to Day 315:   WHO’S READY FOR ANOTHER 2012?

You know when you keep meaning to call someone or start a new project or get back to working out but time keeps passing and passing and passing until one day it feels hopeless or pointless or ridiculous to make that call, buy that domain name or go on that walk?  That’s how I feel about this post!  I started writing it several times over the last 155 days.  I actually had a whole one written that covered Day 160 to Day 232 but for some reason never posted it!  It was about the first day of fall and everything that went down over the summer.  But here it is, another 83 days from then and I’m finally putting my foot down and making myself:  JUST.  FREAKING.  DO.  IT! What...

Creating 2015—Day 147 to Day 159: I Am An Onion

Today is day 22 of my 33-day cleanse.  And shit is getting real!  Just when I think I can’t be any cleaner—physically or mentally—or go any deeper, I discover another layer I need to shed.  I recognize a new issue I need to look at.  I reach another level of letting go.  I am an onion.  Peeling myself raw and open one day at a time. I think the most annoying thing I’ve come up against is that after a delicious day of peeling, I can wake up the next morning with the same film of bullshit over me and I have to start letting it go all over again!  Eeesh.  Groundhog Day anyone? Letting go, literally or figuratively, isn’t some magic bullet.  It isn’t a one-time thing like...

Creating 2015—Day 134 to 146:   A “Post” Vacation

So much for matching 2012’s 365 daily written posts!  I certainly didn’t do “better” where that is concerned.  Deep sigh.  It’s truly amazing how time gets away from me!  But I won’t hold on to how the last two weeks have gone by in the blink of an eye.  Instead, I’ll let it go!  And focus on what turned out to be a lovely “post writing” vacation. I’m not going to lie, releasing the rigidity around having to write something for my blog everyday felt fantastic.  I let that rigidity go! Adios, rigidity.  I will not miss you.  No, it wasn’t exactly a conscious choice, it just kinda happened.  I let life get in the way.  But, I think it happened for a reason.  I think it...

Creating 2015—Day 131, 132, 133:   I’m Back!

Sorry about that!  I had some health stuff last couple of days and couldn’t bang out any posts.  But now I’m back!  Three days in one.  And I’m pondering what in the hell I’m doing with my life!  What are you doing?  What are we all doing with our lives?!? Whew.  I needed to get that out. I’m sure that we are all probably just doing our best at any given moment.  As my acting coach, Julie Ariola says, “If you could do any better you would.” I’m not going to lie though; I feel like I could be doing a wee bit better—working harder, taking better care of myself, sleeping better, being more thoughtful, being kinder, being more positive, eating healthier, managing my...
