Daily Dose—DO IT ANYWAY

Posted by

According to PrayerFoundation.org, there is a poem attributed to Mother Teresa called “Do It Anyway” that was supposedly written on the wall of her home for children in Calcutta.  My favorite line in the verse they have listed as her version is, “What you could spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway.”  The verses were originally written by Dr. Kent M. Keith and are slightly different than the one attributed to Mother Teresa.  And, according to Mr. Keith’s website, apparently, there are two different versions attributed to Mother Teresa circulating around the web.  But no matter how you slice it or who you attribute it to, the message...

Creating 2015—Day 14:   “Start Here…Go Anywhere”

Lisa Gibson, the secretary of North Harrison R-III—my old high school—recently contacted me.  She was reaching out about a special project she’s doing this year and wanted to know if I would I be interested in participating.  I absolutely LOVE her idea!  I’ll let her describe it in her own words… “For the coming school year I am planning a bulletin board program entitled, “Start here….go anywhere!.” With this I will post a US and world map and mark the location of a graduate. I will also post a biography or timeline of the graduate’s education and work experiences and photos of you on the job or at a special moment. I was hoping you would be a part of this program...

Creating 2015—Day 13: Collusions

It’s time.  Time to finish my indie film Collusions!  I know, I know.  I’ve been saying that for like two years.  But this time, I mean it!  And this time, I think it’s really going to happen.  We have two options in the mix as of right now.  My executive producer is talking to a post house he has worked with in the past and they are working on a package deal to do the sound, color and titles.  Also, one of our stars, Jamison Jones, has a friend at a post house he is talking to for us to get a package deal as well.  We shall see what all these folks come back with! It would be awesome to send my director to one location as opposed to a piecemeal situation.  But, with me...

Creating 2015—Day 12:  Party Over

It’s time to sober up and go home!  🙁  Which is always a little sad but always a little awesome at the same time when a vacation is about to end.  Sad because I will miss my friends and how much fun we had. Awesome because I miss home.  My bed, my sheets, my pillow—all sounds good! Although, I won’t be home for long.  I am flying to San Francisco on Thursday for a week.  I am excited to get back to that city!  I haven’t been in years and it is one of my favorites.  Back in the day Best Friend Bride went to graduate school in SF and we spent a ton of time there together.  Lots of good memories. But right now, I have to get ready to say good-bye to Riviera Maya.  We just...

Creating 2015—Day 11:  A Whole Lot of Nothing

That’s what I want to do.  Nothing.  Or, “nada” as they say here in Mexico.  Uh-mazing Romantic Partner is already out with his golf clubs for the day with Best Friend Bride’s new husband.  In addition to his morning smiles, his energy and joie de vivre amaze me.  He’s such a zest for life doer.  Me?  Well, that brings me back to nada.  Which is what I want to do today.  I should be out exploring the ruins that are nearby.  A must-see, my cousin Pam told me.  Or, walking the beach, or out in one of the bazillion pools at this resort swimming.  But no, I’m happy sitting on my little patio listening to the ocean waves crash in the distance, chilling out. I think a nap and...

Daily Dose—CHILL OUT

Posted by

Stressed out? Time to chill out.   What helps you stop the endless loop of overthinking and stressing about a problem, a situation, something you said or did, what you need to get done?  Shutting off your computer, hiding your cell phone, going to the beach, working out, reading, spending time in nature?   Whatever gives you that peaceful feeling, do it. Stop. Let go. Shut everything down. Take a day off to relax. Create some...

Creating 2015—Day 10:  Worth it!

For all the stress and hell that Best Friend Bride went through to plan her dream wedding, in the moment that mattered, it was worth it.  The ceremony was incredibly beautiful and touching and special!  Vows were exchanged, tears were shed, pictures were taken.  It was an honor and a privilege to be a part of it.  And, oh my god, we partied like it was 1999 at the reception!  Seriously. I haven’t danced like an idiot with such wild, drunken abandon for at least a decade.  It was awesome.  Conga lines were formed, the limbo was done, maracas were rattled.  The only downer was that at one point earlier in the day a hotel staff person setting up a dinner reservation for us...

Creating 2015—Day 9: Good Morning From Cancun!

Well, technically, I think we are about 40 minutes outside of Cancun in Riviera Maya.  Or something like that. It wasn’t exactly easy getting here.  Our flight was delayed and then we had to wait over an hour for our shuttle bus to the hotel to leave.  One of the passengers had lost luggage.  Weary with headaches, Uh-mazing Romantic Partner and I try not to be grumpy.  After all, we are somewhere tropical. Three hours late, we finally get to our first event—Best Friend Bride’s rehearsal dinner—the reason we are here.  She looks gorgeous!  She glows!  This impending union clearly works for her.  We have a little champagne, make it through dinner, see some old friends,...

Creating 2015—Day 8: Good Morning LAX!

3am—a ridiculous time to set an alarm for. But the car service is coming for me at 4:30am. I’d like to have enough time to shit, shower and shine! Well, I’m not sure how much I can shine at that time of morning. Not even sure I can shit that early! Of course, after waking up at midnight to pee, I determine there is no way I can get up in three hours. I reset the alarm for 3:30am. Somehow that extra half hour comforts me. I’ll get five and a half hours instead of just five. It’s the little things. Of course, I wake up every half hour after that worried I’ll over sleep. Even though my iPhone alarm is set and only inches from my head on the nightstand. One of the great...
