Day 101: No seriously, what am I doing awake?

Day 101.  4:23am.  I have not gone to sleep yet.  But, the good news is, scene 18 is done and ready to go to Dan the Amazing Editor Man!  Wooooooo hoooooooo!  And tomorrow, well, today, I will begin scene 19.  I’m hoping I can actually knock this one off in a day.  Then I can start scene 20 tomorrow, which is where I was supposed to be at this morning, well, yesterday morning.  Today is Tuesday, right?  Anyhoo, we’ll see.  It’s now 4:25am and I really do need to go to sleep or I’ll be a mindless, drooling slug all day tomorrow–damn it, I mean today.   So, good night, well, I mean good morning.  Whatever!  Sleepy time. Until tomorrow, create from what you...

Day 100: The middle

Day 100.  I love beginnings.  I even love endings.  It’s the middle I can’t stand.  Considering I’m in mid-life and I have no desire to rush to my end, I should really start coming to terms with my “middle” hate.  I’m in the middle of scene 18.  Ugh.  I can see the end though and there will be no sleep for me tonight until I finish the fucker.  You see, I got a phone call earlier today that lit a massive fire under my ass.  Like life as we know it is over, right out of a movie, didn’t see that coming plot point two type of “we’re fucked” fire.  I can’t go into the details, they’re actually not mine to share but unfortunately, they directly affect me....

Day 99: Why am I awake?

Day 99.  I’m not quite sure.  Why I’m awake.  It slipped over to Day 99 and instead of crawling into bed, I suddenly have the urge to examine the question—because I’m not sleepy at all.  I’m normally a morning person—a really early morning person.  As in, I am often up before the chickens at like 5am.  Somehow my normal has been turned upside down and I’m awake past midnight and I’ve been sleeping in until between 7:30 and 8:30am every morning for the last couple of weeks.  What I’ve been finding is I’m super tired but the minute my head hits the pillow my mind wakes up.  I can’t shut off my brain.  I go over what I need to do the next morning, I see scenes play out, I...

Day 98: Skin care

Day 98.  I’m at my dermatologist’s office this morning getting some suspicious pink bumps zapped off the right side of my face when the subject of Botox injections comes up.  I say, “I wish I could get shot up with some to take away the ample wrinkles on my forehead and around my eyes but alas, I’m doing some acting this year and I prefer to be able to move my face in order to actually express myself.”  I then off-handedly mention I may need a dermatologist to do a cameo making actual Botox injections and, “would you be game?”  He laughed.  Thought it was a funny idea and was open to it.  How fun!  Apparently his girlfriend is an actress so he’s familiar...

Day 97: I’ll dance to that!

Day 97. Scene 17 is done!  In the middle of a little victory dance, I pause and think, “I shouldn’t be celebrating.  I still have so much more to do.”  Then I shrug my shoulders and continue my jig.  Screw it.  I gotta take the victory dance whenever it presents itself! Scene 18, ready or not, here I come. Until tomorrow, create from what you have…and take every opportunity to victory dance.     Kelli Joan Bennett is a filmmaker, actress, writer, entrepreneur, advocate for creative thinking and Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Think Outside The Box Inside The Box Media. Day 96: Great friends in just the right places!

Day 96.  I drank approximately 32 ounces of liquid about an hour prior to leaving for Beverly Hills this morning.  Not the best idea considering with traffic it will take me about an hour to get to my destination from my house.  Although I peed repeatedly before I left, I find myself about to pee my pants at the stop light at Santa Monica Boulevard and Western.  Seriously, about to pee my pants.  My mind races with what to do.  Knock on the door of that pawn shop?  Ask Siri where a 7-11 is and bribe the person behind the counter to let me use their bathroom?  Damn! No cash on me.  I am no longer listening to Aunt Wanda’s story about cousin Judith calling her out of the...

Day 95: Rearranging and breaks

Day 95.  Script Frenzy is going well so far.  It’s day 4.  I’ve written five and a half new pages in the last three days.  Today, zero.  BUT, I had a huge shake up around my whole premise and plot while on a walk in the gorgeous 75 degree weather this afternoon.  I’m excited.  It is even more personal.  More about what I want it to be about.  The time I put in today was rearranging scenes and reworking the structure and plot.  I think I should count that, don’t you?  I’m going to count that. Scene 17 is moving along nicely.  I finished the interview string out yesterday and I’m really happy with that and I started the reality string...

Day 94: Girl Crush Alert

Day 94.  Last night was awesome.  It was the third class of a once a month accomplishment group I’m in led and run by the luminous, incomparable, enlightened and gifted Andrea Quinn.  I’m not going to lie; I have a bit of a girl crush on her.  Besides the fact that she’s got a gorgeous exterior, her real beauty radiates from within her.  And she’s no ordinary self-help, life-coach, intuitive. It’s not heady, ethereal, or “out there” concepts she’s sharing.  Her work is practical, relatable and all about affecting real, positive change.  Plus, she’s leading by example. She lives her own principles—she talks the talk and walks the walk and works...

Day 93: Happily Ever After

Day 93. I wake up to the phone ringing. I manage to pick up before it goes to voice mail. It’s my partner. He’s in Ohio shooting. He fills me in on his latest while I try and wake up. I fill him on the good news that I’m starting scene 17 this morning and I only have 23 scenes to go! I have 9 more weeks in my crusade so I need to do 2.555555556 scenes a week.  Seems reasonable. I realize I have a lot of countdowns going on. I have countdowns within countdowns within countdowns. Clearly, I like countdowns. Time frames. Defined starts, middles and ends. 30 day challenges.  Yearlong experiments.  10-week crusades.  I’m not sure why I dig setting parameters so much but I...

Day 92: Full

Day 92.  The list is long of things to accomplish under self-imposed and Script Frenzy imposed deadlines today. The editing crusade is working so far.  I just finished scene 15.  That completes the three scenes for the week I had set my sights on finishing.  That feels good.  Next week, I’m on to week two of the 10-week crusade.  The goal is to complete scenes 17, 18 and 19. Now, I’m going to crack open my screenplay for the year-long experiment in prolific creativity that I’m to finish during the next 30 days under the motivation and support of Script Frenzy.  A writing buddy has already written her three pages for the day even though she’s ridiculously and...
