Day 111: It’s getting hot in here!

Day 111: It’s getting hot in here!

Day 111.  I struggle to make selects from Cecillia’s second interview.  My fingers stumble around the keys making missteps left and right.  My productivity is at an all time, clunky low.  My head hurts.  I peel off my shirt and get down to my tank top and boxers.  I start itching the inside of my right arm.  I look down and see heat hives.  “Holy shit” I think, “it’s freakin’ hot in here!”  It maxed out at 95 degrees outside up at my house today.  The Avid already heats up the room I’m working in so I had to break down and turn on the air conditioner.  Seemed a little early to have the air conditioner on but I couldn’t take it anymore.  My productivity was at a snail’s...

Day 110: A Mother of Inspiration

Day 110.  Two hours and eight minutes.  That’s how long I was on the phone with my mother this afternoon.  It started on my drive home from the oral surgeon—had another follow up, everything seems to be healing well—and continued until dinnertime.  I wanted to check in with her and see how Deanie’s basketball game went—Deanie is my sister’s son named after my dad, Dean.  Last time we spoke she and Dad were planning on going.  The conversation eventually migrated to talking about me—as usual—and my film projects.  Since I moved to Los Angeles my mother has been a constant cheerleader and source of support, motivation and inspiration for me.  She also happens...

Day 109: Writers, glorious writers!

Day 109.  Screenwriter Cindy is on page 93!  She delivers her first draft on May 6th.  So freakin’ exciting!  It’s gonna be a fun one.  Screenwriter Monica is in South America but she locked her revised beat sheet with the director before she left and she’s going to start pages for the rewrite when she returns.  I’m on page 55 of my script.  I’m hoping to make it to 80 pages by the end of Script Frenzy on the 30th of this month.  That’s ambitious considering the crusade.  So, we’ll see.  My balance flew out the window this morning when I did nothing but work on the doc all day.  My plan is to finish editing and prepping scene 24 tomorrow, start on scene 25 and, fingers...

Day 108: I’m calling it balance!

Day 108. Happened again today.  I couldn’t control myself from spending a couple hours writing before I fired up the Avid.  Wrote five pages on the script and finished a scene.  Well, I’ve decided I’m calling it balance—something I’m not really very good at.  I’m more of an all or nothing kinda gal.  We’ll see how long this lasts. Until tomorrow, create from what you have…temporary balance. Day 107: Bumpy Transition

Day 107.  It was super easy slipping from the editing to the writing this past weekend.  Going from the writing to the editing this morning, not so smooth.  In fact, it was super bumpy to the point of painful.  For starters, I couldn’t stop myself from writing for about two hours first thing because I woke up from dreaming about a scene in the script.  Then, when I went to fire up the Avid, I was immediately hungry.  Freakishly hungry even though I’d already had a big breakfast.  So, I had to spend the next hour cooking and eating more food.  Hmmmmm, I believe I have a little something called Avoid It Through Food  Syndrome.  Sounds like a non-profit.  Well, despite or...

Day 106. Writing Weekend

Day 106. Turns out things went as originally planned: I finished scene 22, went to my friend’s memorial and then I took the weekend away from the editing and wrote all day, both Saturday and today. It was lovely! I have missed writing—really writing—well, I guess I’ve been “writing” everyday since the new-year launch but screenwriting is really my first love. And I haven’t been doing it much at all lately. This weekend was the first two full days working on my screenplay I’ve done in a long time. Now, the big question is, what’s going to happen in the morning? Will I slide right back onto my roll? I hope so! I have 18 scenes to go and seven weeks left in my 10-week...

Day 104: Love Witness

Day 104. My heart is sad, inspired, awe struck, expanded—it’s full, gloriously full. The service for my friend’s husband today was such a gift.  It was an honor to be there and to witness the incredible love he created with his wife, his daughter, his family, in his life and beyond. Beautiful.  Just beautiful. From the service… The Alchemy of Love You come to us from another world From beyond the stars and void of space. Transcendent, Pure, Of unimaginable beauty, Bringing with you the essence of love You transform all who are touched by you. Mundane concerns, troubles and sorrows dissolve in your presence, Bringing joy to ruler and ruled to...

Day 103: I’m afraid to stop.

Day 103.  I hope you’re sitting down—scene 22:  DONE!  Good god I’m on fire!  The reality and interview string outs are done, the script is updated and filled out and the scene bin is prepped and ready to go for Dan the Amazing Editor Man.  I’m a woman possessed.  My crusade combined with my accomplishment group has done something to me.  A productivity spell has been cast.  But alas, I fear it will inevitably be broken.  Have you ever been on a roll—with a diet or exercise program or your writing or whatever—and it seems like the minute you hiccup or fart wrong you get out of your rhythm and you totally lose your momentum?  Next thing you know you’re face down in...

Day 102: Progress

Day 102.  Scene 19 and 20—DONE!  I don’t have to do scene 21 because my partner did a cut of that scene awhile back.  So, scene 22 is up next.  I got my footage organized and my interview bites all prepped and ready to go before I shut the Avid down a bit ago.  My plan is to tackle scene 22 tomorrow.  If I can finish it by Friday then I can take the entire weekend to write on my script.  11 days are already up of the 30-day challenge for Script Frenzy and I’m very behind on my pages!  I hope to make up for it by writing like a mad woman all weekend—if scene 22 is done that is.  Priorities have been set—the script challenge takes a back seat to the crusade.  Hello,...
