Daily Dose—SET A GOAL

Posted by

What do you dream of doing? Set a goal and start! Before you begin, it’s good to know where you are going.  Are you running a marathon, riding a bicycle from San Francisco to Los Angeles for charity, improving your health, lowering your blood sugar, bringing your cholesterol down, getting in shape, getting your child off to college, raising money, writing a novel, making a movie, earning an MFA, being a successful ghost writer of books, starting a non-profit, volunteering for a worthy cause, leaving your shit job, traveling the world, making a fresh start?  Whatever dream is in your heart, don’t be afraid to dig it out! “You are never too old to set another goal...

Daily Dose—BE AWARE

Posted by

HOW AWARE ARE YOU? Look both ways before you cross the street.  Remember to floss every day.  Be mindful of your thoughts.  Take care of your health.  Go for your dreams.  At the heart of all of these things is awareness.  Being aware of your surroundings.  Being aware of important daily actions.  Being aware of your health.  Being aware of your goals.  Being aware of your dreams.  When you stop paying attention to what matters to you, you can lose sight of what really matters.  The deeper problem is self-sabotage.  According to Psychology Today, “Behavior is said to be self-sabotaging when it creates problems and interferes with long-standing goals. The most common...

Daily Dose—DO IT ANYWAY

Posted by

According to PrayerFoundation.org, there is a poem attributed to Mother Teresa called “Do It Anyway” that was supposedly written on the wall of her home for children in Calcutta.  My favorite line in the verse they have listed as her version is, “What you could spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway.”  The verses were originally written by Dr. Kent M. Keith and are slightly different than the one attributed to Mother Teresa.  And, according to Mr. Keith’s website, apparently, there are two different versions attributed to Mother Teresa circulating around the web.  But no matter how you slice it or who you attribute it to, the message...

Daily Dose—CHILL OUT

Posted by

Stressed out? Time to chill out.   What helps you stop the endless loop of overthinking and stressing about a problem, a situation, something you said or did, what you need to get done?  Shutting off your computer, hiding your cell phone, going to the beach, working out, reading, spending time in nature?   Whatever gives you that peaceful feeling, do it. Stop. Let go. Shut everything down. Take a day off to relax. Create some...

Daily Dose—TRY SOMETHING NEW

Posted by

Doing the same thing expecting different results? Try something new! You know Einstein’s definition of insanity, right?  “Doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.”  We’re all guilty of being insane!  Trying the same diet over and over again expecting to finally lose that last ten pounds.  Setting New Year’s resolutions year after year expecting to stick to them.  Having cookies in the house over and over again expecting to have the will power not to eat them.  Starting NaNoWriMo every November only to fall short by a million words.  It’s a new year and a new opportunity for change, for expansion, for a do-over.  But doing something...

Daily Dose—CREATE A SUPPORT SYSTEM

Posted by

Do you think you have to do it all alone? Think again. Instead of plodding along alone, why not find some like-minded support? There is someone out there who wants to support you, see you succeed, or is setting out to reach the same or similar goal as you. Find them! A friend, a family member, a support group, an online community, whatever or whoever you feel safe reaching out to for encouragement and support. It can be scary enough setting a goal, admitting you need help to accomplish it can be even scarier. Don’t be scared! You were brave enough to think about and make a choice of what you want to create, accomplish, or change—don’t stop there. Keep going. Ask for...

Daily Dose—DO MORE OF WHAT YOU LOVE

Posted by

What do you do because you love to do it?!  Do more of that. No one is watching.  No one is cheering you on.  No one is telling you, “good job.”  No one is paying you.  No one is waiting for it.  No one cares…but you.  What do you love doing so much that you don’t care what anyone else thinks?  What do you love doing so much that you don’t care whether you get paid for doing it or not?  What do you love doing so much that even when it gets hard or difficult, you still want to do it?  What do you love doing so much that you do it simply for the love of it?  Reading, writing, singing, quilting, gardening, running, skiing, baking, building, cleaning, computer...
